What really should be the #1 thing on AMD's radar, the DX9 artifacts! - Page 14

Since I was able to reproduce the issue on stock, and even underclocked system its certain that its a software issue.

however reinstallation of windows did not helped...

Never seen any Artifacts, just gsods when IMAX out the OC for a long period of time.

Please, read all the posts. That issue has nothing to do with OC, happens on stock and even underclocked. I for my part can say that OC is reducing the issue because the frames change even faster. So the milisecond artifacts dissapear even faster and get less noticable.

Yes indeed. The problem even happens if you run the cards at 500 core/500 memory.

It happened on my stock sapphire 7970 (non ghz edition, bought on release day) and also with the AMD supplied (unofficial) ghz edition Bios.

Thracks: we NEED to take a survey and find out if this IS card hardware related or if it may be BIOS related. We need to find out which cards are affected, which bios versions are being used, when those cards were bought, what motherboards are being used, etc. I mentioned awhile back that this seemed to be possibly a memory "Timing" issue (like improper CAS settings) but if timing were an issue, then lowering the RAM speeds or overvolting the memory should at least fix the problem, but it doesn't.

For those who said it's a windows 7 dx9 issue, it is NOT OS SPECIFIC. I have seen the same flickers in windows XP.

And yes, it's really odd how different drivers affect the problem differently, and how on pre 12.11.11b drivers in Black Ops (12.7-12.11 beta 10), the problem was SEVERE unless you turned on Supersampling AA, but on beta 11 and 12.6 and older drivers, it is much rarer, and sometimes won't happen at all if you just stand in a spot and not move. Very bizarre.

I've played over 500 hours of Borderland 1, and now over 400 hours of Borderlands 2, over 100 hours of Skyrim, Stalker Clear Sky 2 times from beginning to the end, and have NEVER seen a single artifacts/flashing/flickering like those on the Youtube videos. Never got a single BSOD, crash, freeze, etc.

And this with 4X 7970 and 3X 30'' at 7680X1600 since january last year.

PEBKAC. The fault is somewhere else in your system. Lower your OC/voltage/memory speed on your cards.

That's not correct at all.

The issue isn't on all systems and it's software issue.

I have

3770K stock
32GB Corsair stock
XFX 7970DD stock
Asus Sabertooth Bios 18xx stock
Vertex 4 256GB SSD
Seasonic X-1250W

Windows 8 Pro-x64 genuine/technet
All updates
It's been like this for months and months even though I'm on 13.1WHQL, and it's still not fixed.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with overclocking.

Ok guys, I did too many SW related things.

I had installed ALL existing vcredist packages. 2005, 2005 x64, 2005 sp1, 2008, 2008x64 ... ALL of them.

Today I removed them - flickering persisted.

Disabled .net framework 3.5.1 - flickering persisted

Re-enabled .net framework 3.5.1 - flickering persisted

I entered Safe mode and tried to change IRQ settings, but it does not seems to be possible.

I disabled GPU driver, reinstalled it again manually, and since then 90 percent of all flickerings are gone... Only 2 separate symptoms persisted - skin flickering in skyrim and "Battle starts" in WOT.

Since then is skyrim much more smoother, no stuttering as previously. I can select Multisampling and game does not flicker. it seems I had randomly kicked the right transistor.

BababooeyHTJ - since you was able to replicate my experience with Supersampling I believe we both are suffering with same issue. Try following:

In device manager choose your graphic card. Disable the driver (for all of them). then reinstall the driver one by one manually. Use version 9.12.000 (latest WHQL).

I've ehard there have been issues sin hd4000, 5k and 6k didn't crossfire as well and now 7k artifacts? also if i had to guess 7k probably doesn't cfx as well as the 4k series did none of them do.

that doesn't mean it IS software what if you just got dealt a funky chip? I've seeb some pretty cooky chips before, like cpu that lagged when you alt-tabbed. (new cpu [new cpu, exact model] fixed it). Then again when the 4850 came out the 3850 was faster (driver problems), and to top it off new drivers that fixed latency issues came out not to long ago, i bet in while they will come out with more important fixes.

Yeah there is a problem but many people confuse some things. I have seen texture glitches caused by the engine itself. You can easily confuse a shadow with flickering.Gta is an example if you drive very fast some shadows on the road looks like flickering. The same with skyrim. Disable vsync or let the fps go over 60. Artifacts everywhere.A lot of artifacts or color spot means unstable card.A factory overclocked model some times is not full stable.I have seen plenty cards that you need 0.01 increase on voltage to keep the card stable on stock.Yeah there is a problem i have seen some on witcher 2 bad nothing to bad and you need to focus a lot to see them

It's well known driver issue. Just ALWAYS make clear install of Gpu driver because updating creates a mix of old and new drivers. To check that just uinstall your driver and when you get back in windows check the device manager. If the card is showed as radeon 7900 series then you need to use ccleaner to delete rest of drivers.
