[TPU] NVIDIA to Name GK110-based Consumer Graphics Card "GeForce Titan" - Page 72

Just because they won't be extensively overclockable given the voltage lock down I am sure they will still overclock just as well (if not better) than the current gen with locked voltage. While not really financially practical, if one of these is roughly equivalent to 85% of a 690 performance, just imagine the numbers with 4 of these things, lol. Pointless and waste of money sure, but fun. lol.

Definitely getting me excited to see what Maxwell will bring to the table. I'll be content with my 670s until then.

I could imagine that no GPU setup has come close to the cost. Four of these sandwiched together would require water blocks, so that would be ~$4200 just for the GPU setup. wink.gif

Although for a 60 Hz 4K screen setup I could not image more than two really being required. Although for simple overkill four of these cards matched with IB-E releasing at the end of the year would be pretty epic. That would surely allow all games completely maxed out graphics wise on a 4K monitor. thumb.gif

It is comforting to see others with the same worries I have and esp. Vega who had 4 classifieds at 1400 as I do.

2 titans or 3 might be better than our setups in games like bf3 due to sli scaling. But even then at 1400 or higher and say 7500mhz ram 3 of my classifieds would not be that much slower than 3 titans depending how well the titans oc.

Side question Vega what speed can you run on the vram?

Another concern for me is whether this is first gen kepler 600 series or second gen 700 series. I mean the 680 was nearly 85% of a 590 (forgot exact numbers) and cost was $550 at launch, if this is considered 600 series then yes it slots in well if around $800 but being gk110 it seems more akin to the gk114 second gen kepler than the gk104 we have now and if it is 700 series which being released so close to the time a 700 should be released it should be in the $500-600 range.

Any thoughts on that last concern? I mean generation to generation you get %30-%80 more power at similar price points the price of performance is not additive gen to gen right?

Getting a 680 to 1400 stable pretty much requires a classy with the evbot option, which you can't even buy anymore. If you want one, afaik you have to overpay or solder the connector to the card yourself (not a hard task btw, very quick and easy). And if you're already soldering something you can also solder the other card.

I'm pretty sure that GK110 will generally OC better due to stock cards definitely being heat/temp limited instead of volts like GK104. One advantage to big chips (both with GPUs and CPUs) is that they generally get a bigger boost when cooler properly.

If this is a reply to my comment, I am speaking from and towards others with the classifieds and lightnings as I have.

Otherwise yes it is a good point, however lightnings and msi power editions can still be bought and overclocked to at least 1350mhz, also the reference power regulation design that the titan will have could nip any over volting in the bud short of a major hardware mod and there us no way to know if that large chip will have much headroom period at the stock voltage (only voltage) they will run at lol.

As you said even soldering on an evot is easy, but hard modding the titan will not be so easy being reference and I would not want to do that and realize this 6+2 power reg setup (made up number) just started smoking.

Plenty Some 1400+ MHz Lightnings in the Lightning Club. That's what I'll be looking for and watercooling...

Was just a general rambling, wasn't really directed at anyone tongue.gif

Probably a fine option but as you said, there are only some of them around, lots and lots of cards will never reach that, and even then you can still OC the titan (or whatever it'll be called) as always. Personally I'd just wait, we have no idea about the OCing potential at this point.

I just hope I can have my hands on GK110 before doing some army service in the 2nd half of the year tongue.gif

Yeah but at the price these are probably going to be I think I'll just take up a fellow OCNer's offer and grab his 680 Lightnings! OC'd they will easily beat a single Titan for less $$. Plus I'll get to have Lightnings and they'll be watercooled!
One of these might be my next video card. Then another next year with IB-E. I'm wanting a large capable Single GPU board that cranks out a ton of power. I'm tired of the Crossfire not supported or SLI not supported, and the poor scaling BS that is STILL plaguing multi-card multi-gpu setups. These are supposed to drop at "the end of February" we'll see what The final figure is then, and the ETA on the GTX780 cards. If (a big IF) they are 25-35% faster than the 680, but just about the same price than they *might be the better buy.

IF you could get 50-70% more performance than a GTX690 for $1100 or 85% less performance for 81% of the price, it comes down to how much you're willing to spend. It is a tough choice. Will the Gk110 based Nvidia Titan be enough to Power the next year worth of Games? With 6GB of Ram even at a "lowly" 5Ghz (that will probably OC to at least 6Ghz) you bet your sweet ass it will. Will the Gk114 based GTX780 Be enough to Power the next year worth of Games? Even with 3GB and 364bit? (3GB and 256Bit bus sounds off to me) memory bus yes it probably will. But Which one will be the better performer in CUDA tasks or games that don't support SLI or have really bad Scaling? The Titan...

So 2 GTX780's for more Performance in Games that Support SLI, and Less Performance that Don't... or 1 Titan For Less Performance compared to GTX780 SLI and More performance In games that Don't support SLI...

I might just Get one Titan for my soon to be started new Socket 2011 build, and another one in a year or so when the IB-E drops. IB-E + GTX Titan SLI would be a Number Crunching, Video transcoding, 3D Rendering, Gaming monstrosity.

You can Build a Really Nice SB-E 3930K based System with a Titan in the mix For $2.5-2.6K before water Cooling. Last system I pieced together on partPicker came out to like $1700 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zVtv. Could go Even cheaper with a cheaper Motherboard and memory... but who wants that?

your 7970's cannot do 1300?

because my crossfire combo 7970/7950 @ 1300/1600 can do 22k in 3dmark11..
Im pretty sure with 7970/7970 would be higher. Shame my 7950 cannot keep up with my 7970 highly oced..

Either that or you are going too easy on them lol..

Good luck finding those 680 that do 1400mhz gaming stable tho XD
