If Xbox, just like Xbox 360 had a faster CPU they would perform even better then they are currently.

And paulerxx I wouldn't go around saying that Xbox was 'far faster' then PS2 because it wasn't...... While overall Xbox games did look better there are some things that PS2 demolishes Xbox and GC at.

One of the biggest reasons that Xbox games looked better then PS2 games was memory, Xbox had double the amount and texture compression support too, another key feature that PS2 lacked.

The Geforce GPU in the original Xbox was a good deal faster and could handle a decent amount of extra polygons. Even a game like Halo 2 can show the quality the xbox was capable of, and thats just naming one. The best looking game on the ps2 I thought was shadow of the colossus and even that was pretty blurry game and relied more on art work then real graphic power and was pretty laggy at that. The PS3 version was a huge improvement IMO smooth and clean, even the God of War remakes were a pretty good replay though.

The Xbox while still having the fastest CPU wasn't much faster then the CPU in the Game Cube, both of which were a good deal stronger then what the ps2 had. Again the Xbox pretty much had a lower level pc graphic card at the time even though the ATI card in the GC wasn't to far behind ether. The PS2 had a pretty decent GPU as well still under the GC, but the entire system was hard to code for and the tech really wasnt impressive against what the GC and Xbox had. If the Game Cube had a full size disc drive, and both GC and Xbox have full DVD playback out of the box it may have been a different story for sony. DVD playback out of the box was one of the key reasons why it became such key player in early DVD content. Though what Xbox did for online was before its time, now everyone plays on line and the entire console online framework has all but been MS design. Sony has done nothing to innovate on the online front, everything from friends lists to messaging system to achievements have been put to use on the xbox before PlayStation so.....

I really hope the PS4 and xbox 720 will have discernible performance difference so I can tell my non-PC gaming friends exactly what console to get.

I'll probably get the xbox, and play halo 4 with hopefully upgraded graphics. But who the hell knows, they've been speculating these consoles release for the last 5 damn years.

Guys,

Found an interesting read, everyone should read it. Basically, the author made a 100% BS story about having inside info about the next Xbox. Funny enough a lot of sites ran and posted the information up without taking any precautions. So all these rumors going around every week, I wouldn't take anything seriously at all until MS/Sony mentions info about their next-gen consoles. Take a look, I got a few good laughs out of it:

I found this out on Major Nelsons blog (that's the guy who is in charge of Xbox live programming for those who don't know).

1.9ghz on the CPU would be nice, if the option to install full on windows in the future all the extra CPU power the better.

That's referring to a completely different leak that was faked this morning, not the one from a couple of days ago.

So from what I understand, the GPU, even though only technically a 6670, is still 3-5x more powerful than the 360. And with it being directly accessed by software developers doesn't that make it a good thing? I guess I'm confused as to why people are so worried about the graphics power. If the 360 is comparable to a x1900 or 7800GTX and can render the games it does now( not superbly, but adequately) Than wouldn't this 6670esq GPU be a great leap?

.

Intheory the XGPU could handle more polygons but failed in practice to due limited vertex set-up rate of the CPU and bandwidth.

Halo 2 is a good looking game no doubt.

Personally I think the Jak and Daxter games are the best looking on PS2, millions of polygons, 60fps and no visible loading..

Naughty Dog did make Uncharted. Have you seen or played the Vita version? It looks fantastic, better than most PC games from the past few years. Uncharted 2 drops my jaw from time to time. The first still looks great (better than Assassins Creed)

Though the real gift of the xbox was the mod community for sure. Nothing like being ahead of its time like running XBMC with Large Hard Drives and multimedia abilities that rival the 360. While the PS2 had memory cards and vary basic menu system menu UI. I Modded my xbox soon after the mech assault hack, luckily I had a action replay and still have it to this day biggrin.gif Soon after that I tossed in a 160GB hard drive and set XBMC to run on startup. Had pretty much every classic console game but n64 as the xbox didn't have enough memory for n64 games. Also had most of my Xbox games, also could dual boot back into the classic xbox UI and play on xbox live with real discs. You could play any SD divx avi or mvk file, stream music, can even apply themes. And the Few games that actually show what the xbox can do clearly show the ps2 just isn't up there.

Though the xbox was truly a more functional machine then the other two consoles. Thing was a cool machine to have, ps2 had some good key games but nothing could compare to playing halo 2 online for days.
