Sigh, Coil Whine : /

So after all the drama I went through with my improperly volted, slowly dying, Twin Frozr III 2GB 7850, I get the perfect replacement card. Seriously this replacement card over clocks like a champ, runs extremely cool, and just works...

Except this card has the loudest, most ear screeching coil whine I've ever heard.

So my most likely futile question to everyone here, from someone who would rather hang himself before going through the RMA process again, are there any well known remedies that fix this.

I've done some research but I figure it's always better to ask before diving head first into these problems.

Some say that if you run it in a old game without vsync so that the coil whine is at its worst, overnight or something, that can fix it.

Otherwise I think in some cases epoxy can work

I've seen people say that leaving a game on all night or a bit longer on a menu screen without vsync will fix it, something about the cards pushing thousands of fps on menus. Good luck thumb.gif

Well trying the leave it on the crysis menu screen all night with the fan at 100 percent trick. Hopefully this works. Thanks.

You could try clear nail polish, silicon, or something else under and hope it gets in. Or deal with it, rma it, pad the case, etc

Locate the part causing the whine first, take a pic, and post it here.

Still running on the menu screen, been running since 11 last night. Out at 3pm so I'll check then. If this doesnt work, I may have to take up bitcoin mining to really clear this up. I'll post some pics at some point.

I just got through an awful RMA. Plus this card is an oc'ing beast from limited toying. So I'm game for anything other than anther RMA.

Okay, signed up for a bit coin mining group. Leaving it on the crysis main menu screen didn't do anything. People who bitcoin mine told me doing that for a few days usually dampened or eliminated the sound. I'll keep this thread updated to let you know what works. Going to try the card in a different rig with a different power supply if this fails.

The card is over clocking gold but when I play games the whine is louder than the TF fan at 100 percent. I can't even begin to tell you how sad that makes me. I will literally try everything to fix this without having to RMA this. I hit the silicon lottery with this puppy and don't want to give it up.
