New Game PC: 1155 or 2011? - Page 11

As the owner of both LGA 2011 and 1155,
It's this:

If you just game and web browse, you're more suited to 1155. However, the socket is more prone to obsolescence as Intel keeps replacing their mainstream sockets so often.

As for lga 2011, there is the option of getting ivy bridge-E, and the hexacores proves to be a boon for video editing, folding, and arguably more future-resistant, since 6 overclocked SB cores is nothing to laugh at. However, the cost is thru the roof, as I have spent $2000 on my NEW SOVIET GLORY rig, and that doesn't include the GPU plus the SSDs and HDDs brought over from old Phenom 1090t rig. Ok, more like $1600 if it wasn't for the 512gb Vertex 4, which wasn't in the original rig. So yes, $$$$$.

For just gaming the 1155 will serve you well. By the time that quad core i5s/i7s are obsolete in gaming, you are not going to be looking to upgrade the 3820 to the 3930K; you will possibly be looking to upgrade to an i7-8770K. I don't see why you need to upgrade a 3570K in a year and a half. My friend's i7 920 still plays BF3 MP perfectly thumb.gif

The truth is you are right. Because you're talking about a case which doesn't exist. I'm not dumb and saying it doesn't matter. Obviously bandwidth matters. I'm talking about scenarios where it has no effect. Which is non-tri non-quad setups.
And the truth is I am also right.

16 lanes split by 3 GPUs is clearly not x8 x8. So I wasn't talking about that unless I meant each one gets 5.33x lanes or whatever. That was just a hyperbole, not actually serious about the 1/3 of a PCI lane.
dumb argument going into things which OP wasn't even talking about. i'ma stop posting.

he has no budget for 3 gpus within a year at the EARLIEST and who's to say that he's going to be dissatisfied with dual gpus? you'll say "he might be and its worth peeling out the 2011 socket cash for the 3rd gpu. He's trying to fit in a 670 or a 680 if single gpu budget allows for it! If you get a 2011 socket he wouldn't get that.

True, I am buying 1 gpu now, and add another one later on. I am not planning on going Tri-sli or something like that.

I'm necroing a bit here, but just wanted to chime in on the SLI stuff; what games do you play OP? If you're like me and play simulators, not all games even support multiple gpu's.... smile.gif

On my old rig I couldn't really play, I only had Skyrim installed. But I want to start playing Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed 3, Bioshock infinite etc. I just want new games, and I want to be able to play them for at least 1 or 2 years tongue.gif
