Corsair Mini ITX? What do you want? - Page 15

Poll Results: Which features are most important to you in a Mini ITX case?

This is a multiple choice poll
  • 7% of voters (92)
    Size - the smaller the better. I don't need a full GPU, I want a HTPC-style box.
  • 77% of voters (1009)
Size - I want it to be small, but I want a full size GPU and full size PSU in there.
  • 11% of voters (154)
Air cooling - I want lots of fan options, top, sides, back, front.
  • 31% of voters (411)
Air cooling - I want it to perform well out of the box but we don't need to perforate every single panel.
  • 25% of voters (329)
"Sleek, Modern" Design - The BitFenix Prodiigy, NZXT Phantom Series, Corsair 600T and other cases with unique designs are my favorite.
  • 49% of voters (646)
"Refined, Aluminum" Design - Silverstone, Lian-Li, and Corsair Obsidian Series are more my speed.
  • 34% of voters (454)
Quiet - I want this thing whisper quiet.
  • 45% of voters (596)
Liquid Cooling - it'd be nice to be able to fit a 240mm radiator in this thing
  • 7% of voters (97)
HDD Capacity - I want to make a RAID or NAS box, so I want at least four 3.5" drive bays
  • 36% of voters (477)
HDD Capacity - I just plan on running an OS and a storage drive - two or three drive bays is fine as long as there's native SSD support.
  • 18% of voters (246)
Portability - handles and whatnot are really important to me. So is overall weight and durability.
  • 19% of voters (255)
Scent - I like all my computer products to be scratch and sniff. Please make this smell like Lilacs.
  • 2% of voters (32)
    Other - posted in thread.

Here is the C70 shrunk down to what I believe is close to ITX size - note this is completely estimated and not to scale:

* Not exactly small but fits most of the criteria...
* Traditional tower layout with cable management space behind the motherboard.
* Can be possibly shrunk down further, made longer
* 240mm rad mounts on roof - offset to give clearance to Motherboard heatsinks (or in the case of the P8Z77-I the daughterboard).
* Optional Dual 5.25 Bay (for res) or none at all
* 180mm or 140mm front fan (possibly 240 if no drive bays or cages?)
* Move Handle/Latches further to the edges
* Clean side window (no fan mounts please - just plain ugly).
* Possibly move the PSU behind the motherboard to shrink down even further (heck go SFX).

Feel free to comment/criticize/manipulate/edit.

I like the concept but I prefer not to hotbox the GPU, and smaller would be nice.thumb.gif

well it wouldnt be as bad with the GPU because obviously you wouldnt run a 1200w psu in an itx case. So you'd lose a couple inches there.
Okay first ignore the request to support huge PSUs. An mITX build will not need these, we just need a good 140mm PSU with flat, easy to fold modular cables with a shorter length and a max power of around 600 watts. Be nice to see Corsair make a great ITX PSU while making a case.

For the case keep the lines clean and neat, nothing fancy. I personally think the ability to mount an H60 style cooler is enough. I understand the desire for the bigger H100 but to get that we have to make the case bigger and a big part of the whole ITX build concept is the smaller size. As for HD space I personally would love to see a case that drops 3.5" support and does nothing but 2.5" drive support. Two or three mounting points and I would be happy, never gonna put a spindle drive in my ITX build, SSDs all the way.

Also, I would not mind seeing Optical drive support dropped, though I guess we could compromise and offer slim or slot fed support.

Until someone makes an SFX PSU in the 500-600W range, yes, we can definitely need something bigger than what Silverstone offers. Overclocked 3770k / 3930k / higher-end AMD with an overclocked 670/680/7950/7970 push and often exceed that 450W envelope (factoring in 80% efficiency). Until Corsair or someone else makes a higher end SFX PSU, ATX is the power form factor "enthusiast" ITX builders want. Hence, the overwhelming majority of voters picking that option. ATX is also our only option for a silent PSU.

Size - maybe a tiny tower, similar to the Silverstone FT-02?

Size - I want it to be small, but I want a full size GPU and full size PSU in there.

"Sleek, Modern" Design - The BitFenix Prodiigy, NZXT Phantom Series, Corsair 600T and other cases with unique designs are my favorite. maybe shorter feet, or include squat rubber/felt pads in case i don't want regular case feet (i think that makes sense)

"Refined, Aluminum" Design - maybe brushed aluminum panels? < i think it has been done before....

Liquid Cooling - as long as i can get a corsair w/c kit inside, it will be GLORIOUS

HDD Capacity - limit it to 3 drives, perhaps? i guess i am not as L33T as others, so i only use 3 drives. many cases i own have wasted drive bays i do not use for anything. so i would like to see a case with "just enough" space for a few drives. no over the top , holds 24 HDDs in every corner type thing.

Portability - handles are not really my thing, but if available, make then hideaway ones, that, even when collapsed, they fold neatly into the case, leaving a flat side panel

Scent - I would like to have a Corsair branded Car Freshener thing: it would look like a RAM stick, and have the "new computer parts" smell.

Airflow - will it come with the new AF/SP fans pre-installed in the case? even if it's just the rear and front ones?

I tried to take some notes down before forming what i have to write.

i think the next case, there should be more options for paneling. maybe because my computers fail to utilize every single HDD bay, maybe i do not run SLI/Crossfire as often as i should, so many of the cases i get from corsair and other competitors, always end up with underutilized space. i only run 3 HDDs. yes, it is lame and BORING to run only 3, but i do not do enough of the cool stuff to warrant additional drive bays.

i think that the panels themselves should have a bit of variety. yes, this probably means that they may have to spend more R&D money to come up with a number of panel options, but i personally do not want to run ONE GPU and look at the other 7 unused PCI slots. maybe it advertises that i go fill them with more GPUs, but maybe make it so that the rear pci slots are as flat and solid as the side panels, except for maybe the 3 pci holes.

perforation is nice for airflow, and i love windows. i think that maybe the next case should not need to be modded to look cool. maybe hire some pro modders, and come up with something that requires no modding to look cool. yes, MDPC did that already with Silverstone and came out with a neat case, and yes, it was kind of a one-off, but i think that might be something for corsair to look at for inspiration - a case you never have to mod after receiving it.

i am a big fan of the company logo, but instead of having the logo glued/molded onto the front panel or grill, maybe have it recessed, instead? additionally, if it comes with a PSU, please make or include shorter cables smile.gif

sorry if i am picky, i might have more time to think about it on my lunch hour later.

An ITX version of the 600T would be AMAZING!

I would love to see a Corsair(Obsidian) similar to SG05(as small as possible, I hate Prodigy). I'll probably upgrade my SG05 (just switched to this from TJ08-E) after a couple of years. My eyes are on SG08.
  • No optical
  • 1 SSD (i got my server)
  • Aluminum
  • Space for something like an H80
  • Maybe an included SFF PSU to reduce size, if not full size PSU

Something with video card placement like this could be pretty cool. I like slim cases. Looks better than a cube or a shoebox.

I'm completely against the idea of doing this design just because of Josh alone. If you don't know who Josh is, he's the guy who designed this case that was then stolen from him after it being "Rejected".

Be sweet if it could fit a Monsta 240x80mm radiator in the front vertically with 120x25 fans in push pull while not getting in the way of a 12" length video card.

Like this.
