Corsair Mini ITX? What do you want? - Page 17

Poll Results: Which features are most important to you in a Mini ITX case?

This is a multiple choice poll
  • 7% of voters (92)
    Size - the smaller the better. I don't need a full GPU, I want a HTPC-style box.
  • 77% of voters (1009)
Size - I want it to be small, but I want a full size GPU and full size PSU in there.
  • 11% of voters (154)
Air cooling - I want lots of fan options, top, sides, back, front.
  • 31% of voters (411)
Air cooling - I want it to perform well out of the box but we don't need to perforate every single panel.
  • 25% of voters (329)
"Sleek, Modern" Design - The BitFenix Prodiigy, NZXT Phantom Series, Corsair 600T and other cases with unique designs are my favorite.
  • 49% of voters (646)
"Refined, Aluminum" Design - Silverstone, Lian-Li, and Corsair Obsidian Series are more my speed.
  • 34% of voters (454)
Quiet - I want this thing whisper quiet.
  • 45% of voters (596)
Liquid Cooling - it'd be nice to be able to fit a 240mm radiator in this thing
  • 7% of voters (97)
HDD Capacity - I want to make a RAID or NAS box, so I want at least four 3.5" drive bays
  • 36% of voters (477)
HDD Capacity - I just plan on running an OS and a storage drive - two or three drive bays is fine as long as there's native SSD support.
  • 18% of voters (246)
Portability - handles and whatnot are really important to me. So is overall weight and durability.
  • 19% of voters (255)
Scent - I like all my computer products to be scratch and sniff. Please make this smell like Lilacs.
  • 2% of voters (32)
    Other - posted in thread.

But what does forbidding other manufacturers to use similar design accomplish in this case? Digital Storm will keep selling the case regardless. Josh is not getting any money for it. And since you are saying that no other manufacturers should use similar design, you are essentially granting the right of exclusivity to the manufacturer who ripped Josh off. And since the design is quite clever, people will be interested in buying such cases, thus will bring Digital Storm extra profit that could have gone to, say, Corsair.

What you are suggesting is not helping anyone but Digital Storm.

ok this is turning into , community vs manufacturers lol , we need a forum / area , for this types of discussions , we got some "spies" here LOL

I do as well, but that's about all we can do...

Using 3 slim 120mm sections throughout the case would yield much better temps than a single thick 240mm radiator. So don't think it's a good idea from space saving perspective...

I doubt 3 slim 120mm radiators would work as well as a single Alphacool Monsta 240x80mm radiator with push/pull fans. Tubing is going to be a mess with 3 separate 120mm radiators and flow will surely suffer.

If the case had horizontal flat mother board mount the card could be positioned off to the side of the front radiator and total length of case would only need to be about 13".

LxWxH would work out well with a nice box 12x12x12. With these dimensions you could put the motherboard mid level of the case and have the power supply low and cable management hidden below with some room for storage drives below and and few other smaller radiator mount options or fans. Make it all aluminum with brushed aluminum on the finish with dual windows on both side of the case to look at the video card on one side and the mother board on the other.

Call it the MMB short for Monster Mini-ITX BOX and sell it for around $100 and tons of people would want one. biggrin.gif

i would like a really small case but i also want it to fit a full size gpu i also want a specially designed small factor psu with the same functionality as a full size psu

i want the case to be as thin and tall as possible (like a console form)

i want it to be very sleek alot of black and a optional window

something very similar to the digital storm cases

Who is this Josh guy? As far as I can tell using a 90 degree riser off the PCI-E is a decades old design used in desktop pcs since the 80s. (Though it wasn't PCI-E then, of course)

+1, I met josh at PDXLAN a few years ago where he put in a complete custom chassis that he made from scratch into the case mod contest. The guys work is just insane, I feel terrible about what happened to his design.

Any news at all George? Caselabs just came out with an ITX case I was looking to buy but once again it's just a little to large. I already have a large ITX case i'd like to downsize while still having the option for a full size gpu.

I have documentation from 2008 when I was dabbling in the idea of this chassis and documentation on it's progress since then. There's price quotes, parts orders, and other legal history to prove that. It's my own mistake of going to FNW and Dell in the first place. Corporations don't like us little guys. -Josh

As long as you have watermarks on your images and ofc - a build log with no imagery of mechanical/technical drawings , you're fine. Not to sound stingy, hows about we get some ordering bonus or a discount for pitching in feedback for a reputable company smile.gif ? rolleyes.gif

ok Im late to the conversation but wanted to add my top priorities in an itx case...which I would love to build but dont feel there is something out there for me yet (although that recent mod winner was nearly perfect, not sure if in production yet)

What I look for listed by priority:

-Water cooling friendly without modding the heck out of it (at least 140mm but 240mm ideal) OR two chassis, h2o and smaller air version?
-SIZE!!! Much smaller than my tj08e, otherwise why go itx
-MATERIAL, please all aluminum exterior, i can insulate the inside for harmonics dampening
-FULL size gpu and psu capable, if needed i can cut my own length psu wires....Corsair psu wire kits premade?!?!? Another up-sell opertunity for corsair

Highly wanted features that are luxury:
-SIDE PANEL THAT IS BOLTED ON LIKE LIAN LI DOES, its one reason why i want some of their cases, i picture a custom carbon fiber panel with window
-since a drive bay is a must for some, how does a verticle slim drive sound to save space?

I want to add that I enjoy a lot of the lian li itx cases but every single one has one big buzz kill for me. Some of their TINY htpc ones that I would consider going with air cooling or a single 120mm rad are not an option since they dont even have a pci-e slot for a sound card or single slot gpu. Currently if I had to buy an itx case today it would be the lian li pc-q08b, at least I could get a 140mm for it, but think the drive bay is such a waist of space. I think a verticle slim drive would be a good option. I only mention this as a visual picture of the exterior dimensions and materials I would like. better interior design for the hardcore would be nice so I dont need to cut anything out.

Thanks corsair for giving us a voice into your R&D process!
