Realtek Digital Input - Static - Not Connected

Thread Starter
I've noticed when I have no input connected Digital Input becomes default because there is a constant static noise. If I run a Mic Test in Steam I can hear static/crackling. I can see in Recording Devices a bar going up and down constantly next to it.

Someone told me this is normal and to disable Digital Input when you don't use it. Is this true? I've tried disconnecting all I can from the back I/O and it's solved nothing.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Image added, another PC in the house that is identical doesn't do it. I'm thinking it's a grounding issue? But surely if it's the Mobo it wouldn't start.

It is probably some weird setting. Trey running CC cleaner (including the registry cleaner) and see if that doesn't help.

Can't you mute the digital input and then select your microphone as default device?

I can but it's the fact it shouldn't do it. If I wanna use in the future I'll not be able to really.

Could be a software or driver glitch since it seems like the card thinks something is plugged in.

Well I found the source... Gigabyte EasyTune 6! It's one of a few things not on the other machine too. I installed it to compare temps with RealTemp and even though it wasn't running I know it was the culprit.

Uninstalled, disabled Digital Input, re-enabled and voila! No more crackling/static. Seriously? WT*. Quick Google shows one other post in 1000s on another forum stating it happened to them, back in 2010.

EDIT: It returned, I unstalled the Realtek drivers and it stopped it again and did not return until I reinstalled them. I don't understand due to the above and that the other machine works fine.

Alright update time:

I've found it. The three pin Digital In on the motherboard. If I put my finger on it, it all goes away. Remove finger, crackling returns. I guess I'll need to RMA it?

RMA done, new board installed and problem has gone. Seems it was my board. Having a look on the back of the old board IO can see the troubling pins. One of them has what seems to be extra solder over it so maybe a manufacturing defect but now is all ok smile.gif
