Over Clocking i5 3570k need help

Hi i am i new beginner in OC a cpu have OC gpu's before but never a cpu. This what i am working with
  • Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
  • 3570k i5
  • Corsair Vengeance 8gig at 1600mHz
  • Hyper 212 cooler

Just started to learn how to over clock and just wanna to know if i am going in the right direction, i have been trying to do an OC of 4.2ghz and been running into some issues and would like to ask if i am doing it right. okay so what i have done so far is went into bio and set it 4.2ghz and left everything on auto to get a base of how things would run i was using Prime 95, Core Temp and CPU-Z while on auto i got 1.224v core voltage and after 15min on prime it got pass what i am comfortable 76c and was rising. So after that i went into bios and change these settings
  • OSV (offset voltage sorry for my weird abbreviations)
  • started at -.050 and went all the way to +.005 and dropping .005 increments till i found a stable setting
  • found that i was stable at +.005v OSV (no Fatal errors)

So while at +.005 osv i only did a Prime 95 test for 3 hours and got no errors was getting
  1. 1.200v Core Voltage
  2. 75c peak (room was at 86f when room cooled cpu was 71c at its peak)
Okay this is where i don't know if i am going in the right direction or not, i changed in bios LLC Load-line Calibration from auto to regular which says running at 0%.
Did a Prime 95 test for osv -.005 results were
  • 1.192v(highest 1.200v) core voltage
  • highest temp was 71c but usually was in mid 60s
  • 1 hour Prime test no problems

So i tried to change the osv to -.020v under load
  • 1.176-1.184v
  • temps 70c
  • after 25mins Prime had a fatal error

This is where i am at the moment
  • osv -.010v
  • LLC regular
  • 1.176-1.192v Core Voltage
  • 71c peak
  • Prime 1 hour no problems

So the basic question is am i going in the right direction in should i be messing with the LLC and to maybe check if i am stable at osv -.015v.

Try to space that out more it was a PITA to read.
You seem to be changing to many things at once.
look at this threahttp://www.overclock.net/t/1247413/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-with-ln2-guide-at-the-endd

and this one http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

It would be easier if you gave us your BSOD codes (i.e. 0x1E - In which case you need to increase vcore)

Also, I don't own the 3570k but I can imagine it is very similar. with the 3770k it is tough to run over 4 with such low voltages. My suggestion would just be if you are stable at stock voltages to 4.2Ghz then leave it at stock. stock is pretty low so I wouldn't worry about going lower but if you need to add more that is a different issue.

Thank you for your reply and the link will look into them. Also sorry for the messy question tried to fix it up a bit hope it helps. About the BSOD if i am correct that stands for "blue screen of death" and if so i have never gotten one of those. what i have gotten is fatal errors from Prime 95 i took a screen shoot of a setting i know to have gotten it
  • OSV -0.020v
  • LLC regular
  • 1.176-1.184v (load)
  • Failed at 19min last time was at 25min in my first post and on test #3 this time on #4

i attached a screen shoot so u can see what Prime 95 says

May I ask why you have hyperthreading off? you dont need to turn it off. Also try increasing your vcore up a step and see if failures continue
BSOD stands for blue screen of death. when you get a BSOD it shows the main error i.e. 0x00000050 and the exacty errors (0x00000534E [thats fate])
If you bsod I need those error codes to help you.

I don't know why it is off but i might be wrong but i thought hyper-threading was only for the i7 i took a screenshot CPU configurations and says Intel HT technology not supported .
looked for a bit haven't found where i can turn it on, and also i see on the BSOD i have never gotten that only the fatal error thing on Prime 95.
Thank you once again for your quick replies and help

So Prime95 just stops working? Try increasing the PCH voltage one step and the vcore 1 step. check your ram for stability with memtest

Yes one of the of the workers on Prime 95 would just stop working.

Just tried it on
  • osv -0.015
  • voltage was from 1.176-1.192v on load
  • worker # 4 stopped at 17min

before i try messing with the PHC should i try the setting that seems to work osv -0.010v
I just ran that one for 1 hour there was no errors maybe i should check if stable at 12-24 hours on Prime
Usually the error would happen with in 20min but i know i need to run it a lot more to see if stable
post #8 of 10
Yeah if you are stable at -10 I would stay there and prime over night and see if you are okay don't change the pch if you are stable
