Intel 520 120g and AM3+ 990fxa-UD3 problem

Hello,

I have spent lot of time and days searching for similar problem, but unfortunately I didnt find any working solution. I will be brief. Thanks in advance.

I have new desktop with AM3+ 990FXA-UD3 motherboard and I just bought new SSD Intel 520 120gb.

I have run clean instalattion of Windows 8 on SSD. Unfortunately I have "common" problem with SSD speed. I dont know what causes it, because not many people are using this SSD with latest AM3+ boards.

I have set AHCI in AWARD BIOS for OnChip SATA Controller. I have SATA III for all 6 ports (new board). I am using correct ("iron-ended") sata III cable.

I have used Intel SSD toolbox for optimize. I am using STORAHCI.SYS driver (latest Windows 8 SATA driver). I tried also latest AMD SATA driver but I got extremly horrible 4k speed during AS SSD Benchmark. I have also updated latest BIOS on motherboard. I have latest firmware 400i on SSD.

Here is my CrystalDiskMark score for MS driver:

I have very low 4k speeds, only 4K QD32 are fine (and also seq are not so horrible).

In AS SSD benchmark I got even worse. For 4k READ I got only 17.6 MB/s, for 4k WRITE I got only 49 MB/s. I saw benchmarks with same SSD wiith much higher 4k values like 26 R/85 W and more.

My SSD is System disk (C:) during benchmarking, is this significant?

Thank you very much!

Michael

Which port is your sata cable plugged in? Make sure it's not a third-party controller

Also, did you follow Sean's guide on installing windows 8 on SSD?

Thanks for quick reply. I dont know what does it mean. I have 6 SATA III 6Gb/s ports, and it is connected to one, look at photo:

"AMD SB950 provides 6 native SATA3 ports with superfast 6Gbps link speed and RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 support"

things are fine.

run as ssd while you have 1 thread of prime 95 running and there should be some improvement. Otherwise everything is fine
