Scratch Build (Acrylic) help needed

Thread Starter
So I want to build this:

But I have a few questions:

I'm not sure how to secure the HDDs to the walls. I thought about using screws through the side panels but I wouldn't know where to get screws that could go through 3/16" acrylic and screw into a HDD. Do you have any better ideas?

As for the thickness of the acrylic, how thin can I get away with here? Currently I have 1/4" as bottom and top and the sides are 3/16"

Do I need 1 inch cubes in the corners or can I use 1/2" cubes?

How should I secure the GPU to the I/O panel? Should I make one? I'm really not sure on what to do here.

Where can I buy USB females for those 4 ports you see there?

What type of screws should I use to screw into the cubes? They would be supporting everything.

for mounting the HDDs, i would get some 3M outdoor double sided tape. this stuff is amazing, i have it holding the lights in my aquarium and i used it to mount my res in one of my water builds... i swear by it. Mike, or mark or who ever from mountain mods also swears by it, hes who i got the idea from.

id go with 1" square for the corners...

for mounting the GPU, check this out, BAM

for the USB headers you could get something like this and just rob the ports and wires from it. also, you could buy like a $20 case that has 4 front usb ports and steal them from that...

as for the screws, the best thing to do would be used machined screws and get a tap and die kit so the screws have a nice thread to grip on to, this is the best way to do it...

For the mounting screws, look for brass threaded inserts. Tapping into acrylic is like fingernails on a chalkboard, and it fractures easily if you stress it.

For mounting the HDDs, I'd just build a HDD rack out of acrylic or aluminum plate.

I would also not recommend using JUST acrylic for the structural parts of your case unless it's fabricated into a structural box or other structural shape, or is thick. Those little corner blocks won't cut it. Recommend at least building some sort of frame out of aluminum square tubing or L-channel so it's free standing by itself. Mount everything to that frame.
