laptop motherboard in xbox 260 case in cupboard?

Thread Starter
hello, not sure if this is the right place to post but anyway.

i have an msi cr610 motherboard inside of an xbox 360 case (dropped main laptop and cracked the case) this laptop was little use to me anyway. so i have it all running fine (maybe need an extra fan).

everything is left stock apart from an extra hard drive connected via usb.

currently it runs 24/7 running a tekkit server online, no problems apart from its too loud for me to sleep through!

if i was to place the whole thing in a cupboard in my room to hide the noise would it overheat at all running 24/7.

the cupboard has bare walls and one of them is an outside wall so its quite chilly in there at times. is it safe to do? i need quick access to it at times when things need to be changed but other than that it runs ok all the while.

any help appreciated biggrin.gif

thanks

It would probably be fine, but why not stick an H60 or a Kuhler on the CPU? Would be much quieter thumb.gif

being a laptop motherboard it provably has different heatsink mounting holes, and therefore a desktop cooler like the one you mentioned would have no way of being mounted without a certain amount of modification

You've already stuck a laptop mobo in an xbox case...whats wrong with a little modding? Besides, probably all it would take would be a few zipties

you dont want to lock anything electronic into a closed space.
regardless of how cool the area is, once the item heats up there's no place for the hot air to go other than back into the system.
this will cause the temps to keep climbing
