In the market for monitor(s). Please help me find quality displays.

I currently have a Dell S2309WB which has:
a 23in TN panel
1920x1080 resolution
5ms response time
1000:1 contrast ratio
60Hz refresh rate.

I am looking for a monitor or a set of monitors for computer gaming with FPS', RPG's, and the like. I don't play many RTS games.

I am aware that the jump to IPS provides me with better viewing angles.

I am aware that 2560x1440 is marvelous, but the panels are plagued with issues.

I want display(s) that will not have bad color tints, ghosting, slow response times, etc.

Any and all suggestions and information is a big help.

My budget is ~$600 max, but if possible I'd like to only spend $400 so that I can upgrade my graphics with the new cards this year.

for under 600 you will not find very good 1440p panels (not that I'm aware of)

I would progably go to a IPS panel for better colour support, they have slower response times but not that I've noticed. I currently have a 120hz samsung with 2ms and a 60hz Asus IPS with 5ms and i do not notice a difference in terms of ghosting between them. I do notice the 120hz vs 60 thou.

if you want something around 600 with an IPS look at the Asus PA246Q, if you don't go IPS maybe look at some 120hz monitors?

The PA246Q will have tinting issues (wide gamut displays are the worst in this regard) and you don't need a wide gamut display for gaming, also it has very poor black levels.

The Dell S2740L has obvious ghosting issues and suffers from panel lottery (there are units with significantly worse black levels and colors): http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/gadgetry-electronics-discussion/11922-dell-s2740l-review-1920x1080-edge-ege-glass-ips.html

If you want a glossy display get the Acer S275HL, it is glossy like the Dell but it does not use glass so it is less reflective. It has the same ghosting issues as the Dell but the overdrive can be deactivated by following these instructions: http://3dvision-blog.com/2457-reducing-the-ghosting-on-acer-gd245hq-gd235hz-120hz-monitors/

Another option is the ViewSonic VX2770SMH-LED, it is basically the same as the Dell but it is matte and does not have ghosting issues, please read: http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/gadgetry-electronics-discussion/12543-viewsonic-vx2770smh-led-review-1920x1080-ips-2.html#post936304

Overclock.ru has reviewed all of the 27" 1080p models and found the LG IPS277L to edge out the AOC i2757Fh/Fm, Dell S2740L, Asus MX279H and ViewSonic VX2770SMH-LED.

I just feel that I am being super picky right now frown.gif. As I said I run a TN panel and the quality and speed seems good to me but I don't want to jump to something that might have delays and snags and a poorer color representation. I really wish I could get a 2560 x 1440 display at a good price. I feel like I either want to do Nvidia Surround/AMD Eyefinity or to have a big hi-res display in supplement to my current 1080p.

Personally I would probably go with ips, if you want to do proper 120hz you will need to get another 670 otherwise you might experience some slowdowns on games that allow you to lock vsync to 120. Besides most games don't support 120hz vsync. You can also get 2 asus pa238qr 23inch

When you do find what you're looking for, I'd be happy to take that s2309w off your hands. I'm in the market for a third and it's proving hard to find.
