Random freezes, lock-ups HD7870

So Newegg sent me a replacement for my Sapphire HD7870 and so far I managed to finish FC3 with no crashes or freezes so that's good, right? Today I was playing BC2 and my whole computer froze after 3hrs of playing. I don't know if it's BC2 causing these crashes because my previous HD7870 crashed in BC2 as well. If this is a defective HD7870 then why would it crash after three hours of playing and not as soon as I join the game? The temps are well below 62c. I purchased Hitman Absolution so I can test it with that game too and see if it crashes or something. There have been a few times before were the card crashed to the desktop and everything was corrupted so I had to restart the computer to fix the issue. I'm using WQHL 13.1 btw and I'm in need of help. mad.gif

test a few more games like BF3, Crysis 2, Metro 2033.. try out hitman absolution too. if you come across artifacrs, freezes and crashes in these games its most likely the card. also if your card freezes / crashes while on desktop and non gaming scenarios then its more or less the card which is the issue.

Yeah, I'm trying Hitman Absolution now. It has never crashed while on desktop, only when playing BC2. I mean since it didn't crash in FC3 which is more demanding than BC2, then I guess It's not the card?

yeah try as many games you can. run Heaven 3.0 tests overnight and see if it runs stable. the card should not crash / freeze even when used for hours together.

I tested it with Heaven 3.0 yesterday for 30 mins and it didn't crash or anything. I will try leaving it for 5hrs today when I go to school.

Okay i know why BC2 is locking up your computer its MSI afterburner or EVGA precision X try closing them while running BC2.

I have already uninstalled MSI AB, Trixx, and EVGA precision. Could it be a leftover from those programs that's causing the problems? I doubt it though but who knows.

I doubt it from what i understand its punk buster having issues with those programs changing fan speeds, try running furmark it's significantly more intensive than heaven and it has a specific mode designed to find errors or faulty hardware i believe it will yield better results than heaven will.

try turning off the onboard sound in the BIOS there is a known issue with BC2 and realtek audio causing freezes randomly it happens to me every single time.

My HD7870 passes furmark with flying colors. Never had any issues with furmark/3dmark11.

I didn't know about BC2/punkbuster having issues with realtek but after googling about it, it seems a lot of people are having the same issue so it could be software related.

I updated my realtek driver and for some reason I was using an older driver (from 2010) and I updated it to 6.1 (2012) so we'll see how it goes now in BC2.
