[help] Full WC block + GC combo

I'm looking to Liquid Cool 2 7970's using the following:

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/step1_complist#DB_inline?height=600&width=500&inline_id=vga_example_table

Problem I'm having is I can't find the 11197-06-40G on Amazon (Only option i'm considering right now as New Egg doesn't like my Foreign cc- even though the order will be placed in the us...)

What I did find is the 11197-03-40G- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B6Y01Y/ref=s9_simh_se_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=auto-no-results-center-1&pf_rd_r=62AEF475E6BC43758EAA&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=1263465782&pf_rd_i=11197-06-40G

I'm wondering if the EK block above will work on the card.. if Not, I'm open to suggestions On 7970 combo's & water blocks.

I'd like to stick to Asus or Saphire and keep the price for the cards @ or under $1000. PS. Not really Keen on the 7990 or 690 if you mention them, the 2nd card allows me a few more connections for a 5 monitor Eyefinity setup. From what i've seen with my 2 6950's i'm not pron to noticing micro stutters either (only on 3 monitors atm, but the new build for late April->Decemeber will have 5).

You want to be careful with ALL SAPPHIRE cards. They are doing sneaky revisions and there is much mixed data on what they consider reference now. VaporX cards are definitely not reference, but some of the DualX or OC cards may or may not be reference. It probably depends on how long the card has been sitting in their/Amazons stock. Pray for an old one. Otherwise look at the Diamond or Visiontek cards, the MSI reference or the MSI OC which is a revised reference but still fits. All the others are a serious YMMV.

Thanks for the info. I've actually Decided to switch up the VGA Block to the SwiftTech Komodo I did tones of research on the VGA blocks and this one got great reviews as long as the PCB's revision is still #109-C38637 (reference design). Plus I like the design and EK didn't have a price on the one I was looking at (prob out of stock, and the one in stock... design doesn't float my boat).

The only reason i'm not going with the Vision Tek(link to Amazon Page) right now is that I can't verify 100% that its pcb follows the #109-C38637. Or if you know of Any in the same range (400-450 per card) that is reference and gets great reviews, send a link my way. Though if I can get confirmation on the vision tek I'd prefer it as Several Hardware forums and tech sites list it as the best overclocking reference design (high achievable stable OC compared to other clock like the sapphires and msi's)

the sapphire hd 7970 with model no 11197-03-40G uses a custom PCB and won't work with reference HD 7970 full cover waterblocks.

EKWB is coming with a full cover waterblock for ASUS HD 7970 MATRIX in late Feb.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Full-Cover-EK-Waterblock-Made-for-ASUS-MATRIX-7970-Graphics-Card-322035.shtml

so you can get the cards now and grab the waterblock when its available. the only thing you need is 4 slot gap between the 2 PCIE 16x slots on your motherboard to use the cards till you get the waterblocks. the matrix uses a 3 slot cooler.

That's a misnomer, ie. it's completely wrong. A reference card is just that, a reference card. Meaning they are all the same and the brand has absolutely zero to do with it. Now the key with Diamond and Visiontek is that they afaik do not have facilities to produce cards on their own. Thus they only sell re-branded product, ie. the reference cards. I can't say for sure whether the Visiontek is currently a true reference or not, so you're gonna have to do some goggling to confirm for yourself.

Love Asus, don't get me wrong, but the Matrix's are just a tad out side my budget range, plus even if I was to get the EKWB block.. I'd still have to trim the I/O panel.. or order a new one (additional costs). Aslo, from what I"m seeing from newegg (use it as a price reference) they are out of stock and discontinued.

That may be true, and I may have quoted wrong... um... here is the TH's review of it. Read the Last paragraph.. turn out it wasn't clocks but memory.. may have just been that particular card.

From Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-Radeon-PCI-Express-Graphics-900491/dp/B006V6RHVM/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359056379&sr=1-11&keywords=7970
http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Radeon-GDDR5-Graphics-7970PE53G/dp/B006UACSZ4/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359056379&sr=1-3&keywords=7970

Only 2 still at least showing reference design.. Searches on the Diamond are coming up nil- even for reviews.. I'll continue to look into the Visonttek

--EDIT--

so uh: http://www.swiftech.com/komodo-hd7900.aspx#tab3- ctrl+f + 900491 (model number of Amazons web site) = Y.

^^Overclocking gpus is down to individual silicon. In other words it's down to luck of the lottery. If you expect a certain level of overclock by buying a specific brand, you will be sorely mistaken.

I wasn't, doesn't mean i can't hope for the same results. Order for the cards and blocks will go in next month. Month after I'll be ordering 2 360 rads for a custom build being done in april.
