Removing bubbles (air) from system

Thread Starter 
When you let your computer run to remove the air from your system do you leave a port open on your reservoir to let the air escape? I'm kind of worried fluid will escape, especially since water is coming in the reservoir from both ways.

Just move your case back and forth(tilt) and eventually all the bubbles will get out...They also get out as time passes...so be a little patient smile.gif

Ok thanks guys, but my reservoir has water coming in from the top are you sure water won't fly out?



and when all the bubbles are removed you place the close fitting back on I'm assuming?

If its not filled to the top I always leave some space at the top in the beginning makes it easer to bleed. If yours is full take a spare fitting and attach a peice of hose and screw it in to the res that way air can escape but water will just go up the tube if it tries to fly out. Why would you keep you fill port on your res opened? Fill the res to max, close it, let the air gather on the res with pump at maximum speed. Rattle the case a bit, put it on it's sides, on it's back, upside down. Top it up again. Rince and repeat.

The air gathering in your res is not going to create any sort of pressure, it's just being moved around and into the res. Only open your fill port to top it up.

I leave the top off my res with the pump(s) on and fill them up about an inch or so. Then I rattle, tilt, tap and flick my case/radiators/tubes to get all the bubble I can out.

Leaving space in the reservoir lets me tilt the case more than normal so I can get more air out.

Generally, after I bleed the air out, you will hear your pumps "run quiet" (at least all my systems do). With air in the loop, the pumps will tend to make more noise. After the noise stops (which usually takes about 10-15 minutes depending on the loop), I shut off the system. Shutting off the pumps will usually cause fluid to rise in the reservoir (again, at least in my experiences).

I then fill the reservoir to the very top, put the cap back on, start the system back up, take the cap off, and let it run for another 10 minutes, then I put the cap back on tight. The reason why I do this last set of steps is so I CAN turn off the pumps with the cap off, without having any fluid come shooting out the reservoir (since when the pumps are off, the fluid level rises).

I *USED TO* fill my reservoirs to the very top with the pump(s) off, but after accidently forgetting to put the cap on BEFORE turning the pumps off (or because of a power failure), and having my walls painted with blue coolant, I learned my lesson. biggrin.gif

Hm I guess that would happen if you have something in your loop thats higher than the res (like a top mounted radiator) never thought about that lol.

But still, not necessary to bleed with the cap open.

After first few mins of filling my loop and letting the bubble get out i close the cap and just let it run every few days the water level will drop and i will take the res top off and fill it back up.
