The 4x4 was an interesting idea but the results show that Intel will still have the lead in the processor market.

Rep for the link

Just read through it, Intel seems to have really got AMD beat for now. The Quad-FX didn't win in a single one of the normal benchmarks.

Also, apparently the Quad-FX are horrible for overclocking and pretty much can't be overclocked at all it seems.

Hopefully amd will have something nice for people who bought socket am2 boards when they drop the k8l architecture onto both the 4x4 and am2 platforms.

Am I the only one noticing that AMD stole the IHS design from Intel? The IHS is smaller in its outer ring.

What was really interesting is that the Intel Dual-Core offerings spanked AMD's equivalent dual core offerings. Hell, the X6800 even beat out AMD's quad core solutions in some of the tests.

The review said that the AMDs' are nearly impossible to OC, but maybe the board wasn't a good overclocker.

Finally, they managed to get the AMD machine to 510W! of power consumption. That's crazy.

The real adantage of AMD is if you run multiple high performance tasks at the same time.... they might be good for folding

I read other reviews, links here and here and it seems the situation may be looked upon a different perspective.
It's true that FX74 is weaker than QX6700, but hey, it's also a lot cheaper. At the egg a QX is 1499$ and a EVGA 680I SLI another 250$. A FX74 should be 999$ and the ASUS 680a around 300$.
This makes an interesting comparison: Intel 1750$ vs AMD 1300$ ... Ok, the performance is not the same, but the price isn't either. IMO the 4x4 was supposed to narrow the gap between the top AMD and the top Intel products, which it succeeded.

The only reason for that is the LGA cradle snot "stolen" it s just used to keep the cpu from sliding.

It also keeps you from ripping it out of the socket.

My 3700+ ripped out of the socket every time I tried to get the hsf off. I haven't bent any pins, but I've ripped it out with my tt venus hsf perheps ten times.

Real World Quad FX Speed & Agility

Our real world testing today disproves my preconceptions entirely, and shows that in quite a few cases, the FX-74 is as fast, or even faster than the QX6700. We ran the numbers over and over again, and the FX-74 simply has the horsepower to compete with the QX6700 in the most CPU intensive applications. When the systems are completely maxed out and you’re running rendering, encoding, or multi-media applications, the difference between the two CPU’s is quite minimal, usually between 1 and 3 percent.

I don't think that is stomping the AMD
