I have Cox which used to be super fast compared to everything else but now it is just average. Even worse this past month I have had terrible reliability issues with Cox. I get random lag spikes out of the blue that go up to 200ms latency. Tonight I was pushing past 999ms for a whole 2 minutes. If someone is streaming video on the Apple TV my latency shoots up to 200-300ms latency. This isn't even a cheap DSL plan either. We have an expensive $60/mo (with basic cable) 30/1.5 mbps plan. I seriously doubt that we actually have 30 mbps download if our connection can't even handle an online game and streaming some video at the same time. I'm sick of this money grubbing service but the only alternative is AT&T which everyone knows is the worst.

This is why after college I'll be sticking to a cheap pre-paid cell phone and no landline. There's no way I would piss away $100/mo just so that I can browse the web on the go. Even if there were no data caps it would still be a joke.

Let me get this straight, You are getting basic cable tv free with your 30/1.5 plan for 60 a month and from what i see no data cap

I'm paying 110 a month for 10/.5 with no cable no anything with 200GB of service wich btw uploads are counted against., I always love reading the complaints

Tell them to get on it quick or my avatar will give them an offer they can't refuse!

Seriously though, I hope you get it ASAP. I can't imagine living with the connection you have right now.

Caps are such a ridiculous way to rip off people. I remember the Netflix CEO saying that each GB of bandwidth costs only a fraction of a penny. Even if it cost a full penny that would only be $3 worth of bandwidth. Gotta love ISPs and their schemes.

No, but businesses would shut down, a bunch of the worlds information would "disappear". The internet is a very powerful tool and has help craft and progress society.

Yes damages would be in the trillions, Businesses would suffer incredibly because they all now rely on the internet, But if it just up and went away tommorow, No-one would die from the loss of it and the world would recover, The internet and smart phones aren't required, There is Nothing they can do that walking to the local post office can't, Only differance is sending a pen and paper letter takes a few days vs the instantaneous communication the internet offers.

YOu can still pay your bills, Talk to your parents, Correspond with family and loved ones without the internet, You can even apply to jobs, By no means is it Required.

Maybe libraries might get used again did you know there is a wealth of information in books, your local library probably has thousands if not hundreds of thousands of books.

How do you think the post office functions? 90% of it, other than the physical mail sorting and what not, is all computerized now. The world has adapted to internet, using it as a necessity. The post office would implode worse than it already is if the internet went away, and they don't have the money to survive the internet hit before profitability flew through the roof from postage and shipping.

If anything I agree with what you're saying..just playing the devils advocate.

there is no definition of "luxury"..

the definition of "need" is also subjective. Theres only a few basics that you really "need"...yet you go with your personal hygiene in a shelter and decide what's "luxury" and what isn't, while living in luxury
