Oh, I am sorry...I was unaware being an SU meant I know every keyboard shortcut for every single operating system I work with.

I mean hey it used to be Windows key, U, U to shutdown the PC. I did not read about this change...again my apologies if my opinion has offended you.

BUT...to defend my argument...I was comparing shutting down the PC the way about 95% of people would between Windows 7 and Windows 8. It is just a few more steps that were unnecessarily added.

Also: Windows 8 and Windows 7 are pretty much neck and neck on benchmarks. Yes windows 8 boots faster. YIPPIE!

Yeah, this comment, the report of him culling internal competition, and Sinofsky being "let go" all ring true to me.

El Reg are the first to report manufacturers comments back, I believe.

And Register jokes included... The Registers "Insider Sources" are 10000% more reliable than anything SemiAccurate posts.

For me, upgrading to 8 was actually easy. Metro isn't that bad when you clear all the gunk out and use it for accessory software. All my addon type software like skype, ventrillo, quick links to information sites I use often (like OCN) rests here, while I live out of the desktop view. But when I need quick access to something, start button, click, there. It's actually quite comfortable, and my system overall has been faster on 8 then it was on 7.

Quite predictable outcome for another unnecessary OS from Microsoft.

yeah, maybe I could see the light someday...when I become a user instead of an su.

I know for a fact that Windows 8 is far superior to both of the former operating systems. My statement comes from the fact that every person I encounter will not take the leap to use Win8 due to the fact that Metro is your default loadout. I won't just give into change for the sake of change. They removed the start menu since they claimed no one used it...with the way I work that is far from the truth.

I especially hated the fact that turning off my PC became a 4 step process.

To get to the power button in the new OS, you must pull out the Charms menu, click the Settings charm, click the Power button and then select Shutdown or Restart.

When launching stuff from the charms menu it is no longer in a window...It runs an app that takes over the entire screen. I find this highly counter productive to troubleshooting. IMO it is no longer windows at this point...since there is no window -_- ya digg?

Re-Rail: Honestly, if Microsoft needs a reason for bad sales. They should look at not releasing a new OS when clearly one was not needed. Try to not strap on hardware as a selling point when we really don't need that right now either. They are not apple so they just can't take that kind of approach.

cheers,

So people who think that Win8's totally-not-Metro interface is a bad idea for the desktop are unintelligent and misinformed? On the contrary, at least we know that trying to force people to adapt to an interface largely identical to the Alphie II (seen below) is a non-starter for the large majority of desktop users...

regarding the shutdown comments, why doesn't ms just assign a function key to give you the shutdown options. ms has been making this process take longer ever since they released xp (i mean in all subsequent release).

even the alt+4 method still takes longer than xp method
