[Register] Microsoft blasts PC makers: It's YOUR fault Windows 8 crash landed - Page 16

Some people, especially in this line of hobby/work, must always have the latest-and-greatest, and cant accept that maybe it's really not....all that great.

Not that this is directed at anyone in this thread, but the discussion/arguments here have reminded me of times where this is very much true.

Very true.

And sometimes, the "latest" isn't always the "greatest". Take the 1958 Edsel. wink.gif

It's just as tired as "ZOMG NO START MENUZ". He didn't even say "you must not have tried it'. He simply toyed with the notion that there's a possibility. Which there is. You'd actually be surprised of how many people jump on that Windows 8 Hate Wagon not because they've tried it and hated it, but because everyone else seems to hate it. It's a very solid OS.

That's your own problem. I find it hard to believe though. Using it as a full time (and if it wasn't full time, why are you even arguing? You have no argument if that's the case) OS since before consumer preview, hated it. Continues using it, continues hating it. Uses release preview, hates it. Assuming you switched to RTM and still hated it. Don't blame Microsoft, blame yourself. You're the masochist that keeps torchering himself.

I'm gonna go ahead and call you out on that though. If you're going to lie about something, 11 months is a little excessive.

On another note, OCN should outlaw Windows 8 threads. Haters gonna hate.

It's called "I do it because it's my job".

As I've said before, our company writes software and we have to test it on a variety of OS's to make sure it will work. As such, we have 98, XP, 2000, 7 and 8 machines set up that we run our software on to make sure out stuff is compatible. So you can believe what you want or don't believe.

Agreed. Little do they know, touch is a fad. It'll end.

Fine, let's reflect on Windows 8 with respect to performance ... it boots up faster than Windows 7 (I've said that about a million times). For those of us who have Windows 7 and an SSD, that is about 5-6 seconds faster, so big deal. When you factor in that some of us only boot up once every week or so, any boot time savings that Windows 8 has is completely lost (like I've said before).

As far as how much faster Windows 8 is over Windows 7, benchmark after benchmark as proven that to be at best, a wash. In many benchmarks, the difference is only 1-2FPS, some games faster on Windows 7, some on Windows 8. HARDLY worth the time it takes in install a Windows 8 upgrade or full install and certainly not worth the $15, $40, or soon to be $200 price of Windows 8.

As far as horrible sales, that has been hashed to infinity. Windows 8 sales have been horrible and even Microsoft admits it. Now we are on to "The Blame Game" (ie this thread) and guess what? Microsoft is busy trying to blame everyone but themselves.

If Windows 8 was so great, there would be no need to blame ANYONE, because everyone would be using it. So I guess there is another example of why Windows 8 adoption is as report after report has shown ... horrible.

I've literally seen him and other people here say "It's not just the start menu or lack of aero, I have other reasons". What other reasons? What are these other reasons? Don't chime in to the debate without substance. Give reasoning, and we won't have an issue.

I've given my reasons. On many threads before.

No start menu. Issues with HP drivers that won't allow you to print page 5 through 18, either the current page or the whole document. Having to turn off a ton of "spyware" options that should have been left OFF by default. Not being able to have multiple instances of remote desktop up since they are now full screen apps. A fair amount of older business programs refuse to now work on Windows 8 that work just fine on Windows 7. Business desktops don't often have touchscreens, and 8 is really optimized for them and it is pretty "less than user friendly" with just a mouse. Then there is the whole retraining issue that will cost time and money in retraining our employees. You may think it will only take a couple days, but multiply "a couple days" times 8, then by the number of employees, then by the dollars per hour they are paid, and add in money for "lost productivity" as their backlog of work invariably has to be caught up (usually through overtime) and you will BEGIN to see my issues with it. I've said these things MANY times before and I guess you missed them.

There, I guess "we won't have an issue" any more ... RIGHT?

Game speeds and FPS are irrelevant at this point in Windows 8's lifetime. Driver maturity does a lot, and 7 has the advantage there. As far as overall "snappyness" (keyed phrase btw), I notice improvements. It's not dramatic, computers can only get so fast, but it's there. It doesn't mean a lot to some, but to me it makes a difference. I'm a very impatient man, as you may know.
