Windows 7 upgrade questions - Home Premium to Professional

Thread Starter
I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on my desktop - I purchased a retail copy of it that came with both the x86 and x64 versions and one product key. I downloaded a full copy of Windows 7 Professional with product key through Microsoft DreamSpark, and currently have it installed on a separate partition to test functionality.

I'd like to free up my Home Premium product key for use with my netbook. What is the best way of doing this? As it stands right now, I see my options as:

1. Formatting my Home Premium partition and reinstalling all of my programs and games under Professional (pictures, music, and other media are on a separate partition on another drive).

2. Deleting the Professional partition and using the Professional installer to run an upgrade on the Home Premium partition.

My questions are:

1. If I run an upgrade on the Home Premium partition, will I be able to change the product key from the Home Premium key to the Professional key?
2. If I run the upgrade, will my programs still work or will I have to redownload/reinstall everything?

For me I dont like doing upgrades. I always wipe the drive and do a fresh install so I would say # 1 of your choices. And you should have no issues installing home premium on your netbook and using the key you have to do so. I have put in new hard drives on desktops all the time and reuse the same key. You just dont want to use the key on multiple machines at the same time thats when you run into an issue.
