Hello im helping a friend upgrade his computer. He wants to upgrade his motherboard memory and cpu and his budget is 400$

So for the motherboard i picked the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131851

for the memory i picked CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233365

and for the cpu im debating on either the AMD FX-6200 Zambezi 3.8GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor FD6200FRGUBOX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106010

or the
AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103961
but still not sure

THANKS IN ADVANCE. redface.gif:rolleyes:biggrin.gif:D;)tongue.gif:thumb:wink.gifbiggrin.gif:o

The 8 core is worth it. You are only paying $25 more for 33% more cores smile.gif

Edit: Is he going to overclock? If so the 8 core is definitely the way to go. If not, the 6 core might be a bit faster in some games, but 8 core is still more future proof.

Not sure if you saw it, but that motherboard comes with a free 8gb of G.Skill memory. You can the find the identical stick and but 2 more. Unless your friend just wants to run 2. Then you can also have a little bit more money for a cpu, or he can save it.

The FX-6300, the Piledriver equivalent to the FX-6200, is $5 more, uses less power, and is slightly faster.

I have a 8120 in my rig, and it's not nearly as bad of a processor as some people would have you believe, but all those extra cores are wasted unless you're doing very threaded work like encoding.
