Got a build for a friend, probably just do a moderate overclock, nothing too hardcore. 4.5 being a solid modest overclock.
He'll be streaming LoL, TF2, etc... Nothing super intensive, maybe some other FPS'ses.

Streaming. That changes the game. I usually go 3570k bundles at my Tustin MicroCenter but with the streaming component I know that eats through CPU processing power quickly. Does the 8350 mitigate that?

Given the fact that he'll probably be @ 1080 with a 7870 LE or a 7950 then he'll probably be streaming at a relatively high resolution as well, not a 480p stream.
I've only had exposure to programs like XSPLIT but hopefully you guys can give me advise for which would be better for the money.

The 3570k is better all day with a good cooler, unfortunately with using only the Hyper 212 evo you wont get as high of an overclock as you would want. I would still go for the intel simply because I personally have that and have no problems streaming games such as Mechwarrior online and Guild Wars 2, both extremely intensive games. Streaming is more limited to your bandwidth then the CPU. Although having a fast CPU helps alot by compressing the video slightly before it goes onto the stream, the fact of the matter is that it is bandwidth bound.

As for good coolers, spend a little more and get the NZXT Havic 140. They are about $60 and cool almost as good as the Corsair H100. You probably wont be able to stream at 1080p unless you get a 7970 and overclock the hell out of a 3570k, the max I can do with my rig is 720p, mainly because of my bandwidth but still.

As for good 7950 brands, Asus, Gigabyte, and Sapphire are great choises.

Good luck with the build, and if he needs help with Xsplit just ask me wink.gif

*EDIT*
Also I would go for a Seagate Barracude 1T, they are about $67 and are 7200 spin so its decently fast. PS: An ssd would be a good idea if he plans on doing more videos.

Do you live stream? Because I think you're not aware that xsplit is extremely CPU intensive. Bandwidth is a given sir.

Thanks for the input but I'm already already aware of everything you said. Too much of a nerd tongue.gif

I do livestream, and produce/render videos. I was hoping you were aware of everything I said.

The FX is quite good when it comes to certain types of rendering, but fails in others (but you probably knew that), I'm just going by experience, as should you, the i5 is amazing all of the time and although it costs slightly more, it is still better.
Here is a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-_SGDT-dzw
It shows the FX oc to 4.8Ghz compared to a STOCK i5 and how the i5 isnt too far off at stock clocks. Overclocked to a fairly standard 4.1 GHz the i5 will either match or beat the FX in most every test, except ones that do operations per second per core. Rendering doesn't work this way, I dont exactly know how to explain it without making this post a 1000 word essay, but it essentially starts using a core, when that core reaches a certain thresh hold it starts using the next one, and the next, etc until every core is at this certain thresh hold. So more efficient cores are better then quantity of cores when rendering/compressing, which is what xsplit does before going to the stream.
Hope that made sense.

I know this because I watch my core usage far too much smile.gif When rendering they never go above 92%

Its a bit of a tough spot when you think about it:
When everything is overclocked and done, the 3570k will yield more FPS, but when streaming the 8350 will undoubtedly handle it better. The 3570k will excel in and beat the 8350 in anything not heavily threaded, and will do just fine in heavily threaded stuff. He is also not playing super intensive games so I feel the extra core would not really help in this regard. My vote: 3570k. Prepare for razethew0rld video.

EDIT: Also I live stream in 1080p games like 64 man Bf3 and even with my high clocked 8 thread sandy, it derps pretty bad. Of course he will not be playing that I am assuming so you should have to worry about it.

Thanks ADHD,

Pretty much sold on the 3570k then! or maybe a 2500k since I already have a TP67XE thumb.gif

That means I have an i3-3225 I have to get rid of...

No problem, I dont think a 2500k would actually be that smart, it has to achieve about 0.3 GHz more to actually achieve the same speed as the 3570k. Granted with the money you save on not having to but a mobo you could put into the case and cooler, or an SSD.

As for the i3.... I would take it off your hands for my office pc build, but I'm slightly strapped for cash.

yes, but the streaming results do make sence... it is an aplication that does benefit from moar cores, yest intels core are stronger but, in this case more is better
