Okay, so after three days of troubleshooting and switching between operating systems, I've finally pinpointed the cause of my SSD's slow write speeds.

I have a Samsung 830 256 GB SSD and an AMD 990X/SB950 chipset on my MOBO. (SATA III)

I should get speeds like this: (Screenshot from a clean Win 8 install, with the generic Microsoft SATA driver)

But once I install the latest driver for my motherboard's chipset, my SSD's speeds tank like so: (See the write speeds?)

So I roll back the driver to the Microsoft SATA driver and:

DRIVER IN QUESTION:
AMD Chipset Driver V8.973 (8.0.877.0) for Windows XP/Vista/7 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
AMD Chipset Driver V8.981 (8.0.881.0) for Windows 8 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)

Does anybody have a similar setup who can test to see if they are having the same issues as a result of installing this driver in Windows 8?

Are there any downsides to choosing not to install the chipset driver for my system?

Any ideas for solutions?
