Asus Xonar Owners Feedback Wanted

Thread Starter
I am thinking of upgrading to a new sound card and need some feedback on the Asus Xonar cards. Currently I have a Creative Audigy Xfi, its a okay card for my very old speakers and old headphones but doesn't quite cut it with newer gear, and the connectivity is what bothers me the most as it doesn't include any HDMI or Optical Connections. My pc is for very lite to no gaming and mostly Music, Movies and some youtube and other stuff. I am thinking to add a receiver and bookshelf speakers to it so an Optical out would be a great feature.

Whats the Difference between the Xonar cards and would you say they are better then the Creative line of cards? I dont think I can afford the high end products but how about the Xonar DG or DGX? Some Personal experiences and comparisons would be nice.

So If you are currently using a Xonar card in your Rig or another Computer, then give me some feedback. Also if you have a Xonar DG or any other card sitting there that you dont really need that I could have then let me know, I could use one and will be happy to pay some $$ too if you like. smile.gif

I recently bought a DGX and I think it's awesome. It has made my gaming experience a lot better, sounds are a lot crisper and louder. I paid £18.88 for it on Ebay so it's not bank breaking.

I think the only the only difference between the DG & DGX is that one is PCI and the other is PCI-E.

last use :
auzentech - prelude(sold it because of curiosity of stx) , then
now xonar stx

if u're more into gaming go creative chipset no doubt
music go to xonar

pure music DAC(althou' i hadn't ever try it)

my experience prelude compared to my stx :
tried it on BF3 , it's fresh for my ear when i switch to stx...
stx sound like trash on bf3, the immersion feel like on pipe sewer, reload, sniper, explosion, etc sound so thin, compared to prelude really immersive like movie sound.
*but on witcher 2 they sound just about the same.

on movie, prelude got more boom, immversive, stx got more clearer ambient volume.

on music, off course stx win, sound more dynamic, less hearing fatigue.(less distortion for all sound playback on pc) and the sound sampling works better for sure....etc etc stx win on this
(both soundcard tested by same speaker mx5021, and 2 same headphone, ultrasone hfi580, and dt770pro 250ohm)

im not really an audiophile, but i can tell the difference on my comparison..
and now, i can't wait to get my hands back to creative new line ZxR ^^

(i'm more into gaming thou')

but if're looking for DG xonar, i haven't tried it yet, but i think it's about on par with lower creative series to like Z(or maybe creative can win, since it's newer, more recent technology or else biggrin.gif)

my suggestion :
- if u're looking for soundcard at least try about the xonar DX range class(dunno DG or DX higher) so it really gives u the difference compared to onboard ^^

I used to own Xonar DG early in 2012, for only 2 months i think.. smile.gif
It did not lived-up to my expectation. I'm more to 30% gaming, 60% music while browsing (lossless and alike) and the rest movie.

DG is more to gaming soundcard and it is quite good if you pair them with a headphone. Played Black Ops and several FPS back then with HD 202 II and I was satisfied enough. But, again I need SC for music also (most of the times). And DG is just slight better than onboard SC.

And since May 2012, STX is my best-friend during occupation in front of my PC. It is good with speakers and headphones (I am using Creative Aurvana Live! for both gaming and music now). Although i'm not an audiophile, i found out that It's an upgrade from onboard to DG and waay more better to STX. DG is good choice if you're in a tight budget.. smile.gifsmile.gif

Good Luck..
