Best Card for CAD Station

Thread Starter
I know the stuff that's discussed most about in these forums are graphics and gaming but I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on the best video card out there for an AutoCAD workstation. I'm most likely gonna go with the Intel Core 2 Duo setup but I just have no idea what to get for the Vcard. Any suggestions would be great.. .Thanks ahead of time!

An nVidia Quadro

The ATi FireGL cards are excellent as well. Either one to fit your pricerange will rock out the openGL (CAD).

As said the best cards for graphical rendering is the FireGl from ATI and Quadro from Nvidia as linked above.

You can do it with Normal cards from ATI and NVIDIA but just wont perform aswel as there not designed for that.

Excellent point Enterprise, the GeForce cards have always sported excellent support of OpenGL, and ATi's X1xxx series has much better OpenGL support than their predecessors.

Also something else i will Quickly mention is that If you want a Balance of good gaming performance and being able to carry out tasks in Cad the X1000 series of ATI and 7 series of the Nvidia cards will be fine...I say this becasue a Normal Card of the Series above will be albe to game fine and carry out Cad at a good level...However if you get a FireGL or Quadro you limit yourself as there pretty poor for gaming unfortunately...A said there just not designed for such things.

Good Point Xavier on the ATI and Nvidia cards That dont do to badly anymore due to there better support.

Thanks guys for the quick responses.

The current computers that we have right now are really out of date, I believe the video card that's in my workstation is a Riva TNT2 64, I'm guessing any of the 7 series Geforce or X1K series ATI's would easily beat this card in rendering, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking that I'll probably go with a Quadro or FireGL since they are work computers and people won't be gaming on them (maybe some occassional internet games). But man these cards are expensive, I'm sure the higher end models are probably overkill since its strictly a CAD machine, what models would you guys suggest? Thanks again!

Yes the Nvidia 7 Series and ATI X1000 series will be better than that card in rendering.

Well if there Work computers and your Main goal is Graphical rendering then the FireGl or Quadro are best for you.

It will depends on what card would be best. A card with Overall more memory onboard will have a great effiency for such things as rendering.

Strictly CAD? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814195008

Something along those lines...don't need to go overkill. I was using a super low end Quadro at my old job, worked well, but wouldn't have minded a little better.

Have a price range in mind?
