[TLB] Creator of FXAA says PS4 to be light years ahead of PC - Page 4

Meh, as a gamer, I will own both the new Playstation and new Xbox (and of course PC)... They all have great games, regardless of what is more or less powerful.

As a famous man once said, he's full of "Stuff".
Just because he collaborated on an Algorithm does not mean Artists, and Game Engine Tools are anywhere near optimized to directly use such low level calls in a "Game Engine". There's a reason why game engine Tools use the intermediate higher level Object's Tools over the top of DX , OpenGL etc, and let middle ware deal with the hardware.

To simplify it, it's synonymous of saying Crytek, Unreal Technologies, Source, and Unity3D graphics engines will now bypass Microsoft DX, / OpenGL and develop their own proprietary assembly language calls to harness the direct hardware...in all their modules. So what tool?? is going to be embraced by Devs for PS4 to do tall this at the hardware level?? Will it look like what the Blender UI looked like years ago..(I haven't checked it lately) as it was the worst "Usability" mess of a UI i've ever seen.

Then they also have to connect their modules of Lighting deffered, non deffered , & baking, Shaders, Render Ocllusion, Memory structures, Garbage collection therein, and the miriad of other gotchas Middleware deals with.

There's a reason the Cell was not easy for Dev's to embrace. So everyone is supposed to believe this New Jedi Mind Trick and forget the recent past, albeit ten years ago.

Birdbrainz is Crazy.. So You are Boasting that you finished first in a Motorcycling Competition using a Pedal Bicycle because you sabotaged all the other Motorcycles?? mad.gif

You prick of a man, We have better hardware then the PS4 currently, We even had it 3 years before, but yet your Console performs better, That's because you Optimize and center each and everyone of your games on Consoles First. Put them Both on Equal Ground and Footing. Put Equal Amount of Work optimizing and maximizing your Video Games on PC Hardware as you do on Console Hardware. Then I'll see What is Faster and Ahead. My Motorcycle or your Bicycle.

PS4 1st party games will be years ahead of the PC simply because it opens up what is possible on the GPU.

Ya This Would have Been Possible a Decade AGO if you did that for the PC instead. What did you do the last 6 years, What stopped you from opening up what was Possible with our hardware? Oh if you did that it would have taken you much more time and most likely wouldn't get you as much money..ouuuu....And now that Consoles are outdated and new ones are arriving now you want to work on it? Got it..

Same Level of Optimization and Work = Console buttkick.gif $3000 PC /\ Console also buttkick.gif $500 PC

PC FTW band.gif

The problem is, how do you optimize PCs like they optimize consoles? A console will always have the exact same hardware while a PC's hardware has an endless amount of combinations.
His argument focuses on a big IF. It's not out of the question though. Console optimization is really wonderful coding. There is no way the same hardware would function as well in any other circumstance. That being said, PC hardware will continue to advance and just brute force things better (and do other tasks better too!)

Exactly this, if (for example) Crytek optimized the heck out of Crysis 3 then they'd have to do it for GCN, VLIW4, VLIW5, Fermi, Kepler and all the different cards that fall under those.

Not news...(This being an opinion)

Moved.
sounds like this guy really wants Sony to implement FXAA at OS level. ..which we know isn't gonna happen.
With AMD in all 3 console platforms MLAA will lead the way as the basic form of AA.

NV can keep this blurry FXAA crap to itself... use to gain few fps in pc games.. hah.
