Does Overclocking make that much of a difference? - Page 2

Definitely when I ran my athlon64 3000 at 2400mhz with my SLied 6600's i noticed a drastic change in gaming performance in BF2, load times still were garbage but once loaded, the game ran smooth at high settings for hours on end.

True, but the main thing you can easily adjust is the frequency of the core of the GPU and that of the video RAM.

Do indeed keep an eye on the temperatures, and run tests. Slowly increase the frequencies, and have some 3D program to run tests with. The moment you see artifacts, lower the speeds back to the last working good settings. DO BE CAREFUL! Heat is indeed an enemy.

And regarding pipes... if you more advanced... anyone know if that card can unlock more?

Lol. I wish someone would do that for me. I can't afford my Stinger WB right now. I'll probably get the money from my parents for christmas or something..

I have been able to increase my CPU speed, from 2.4 to 2.7ghz without upping the vcore yet... which shouldn't produce any extra heat... right?

besides, no artifacts yet, but I can't press it past 2.7ghz without the computer not starting correctly... and I am afraid to press my luck on upping the vcore without a decent fan or cooling unit (still using stock *cough*)

Regarding the artifacts, I was referring to the video card, not the CPU

The CPU will simply fail to boot, or you will encounter other instability issues if you push it too hard.

OCing for me is about faster rendering and compressing times, as well as an all-around "snap"--everything feels faster.

Let's face it, the small wait times computers make us absorb are annoying, even though they're quite small.

Let me tell you honestly. I could live with my PC at stock. But every day I come home and sit at it and think about it's potential!

It's like having an athlete with all the natural talent in the world who just does what he needs to do to get by and have fun. Imagine what he could do if he really wanted to though. He could work hard and really make something of himself! He could be the BEST.. AROUUUUUND! NOTHING EVER GUNNA KEEP YOU DOWN!

...Well you know what I mean. I do it because I enjoy the challenge of tweaking different things and seeing what I can get it to do. That in itself is fun for me.

Then the added performance is a bonus. Whether in benchmarks or load times in games. Even double clicking things on my desktop opens them fast on my OC. Everything is quicker. Very satisfying.

Only downside to OCing, is no one is ever really satisfied. They always want to get better, push more, a little more... until they're the BEST.. AROUUUUUND! NOTHING EVER GUNNA KEEP YOU DOWN!

Wish I could, cept the cash money thing.. which I could solve if a few friends (i.e. yall) help me pay for one... and the fact that I have an AGP slot... yes, I know, still in the AGP era... besides, it won't be worth it for me to actually get a new card, when I could just upgrade my entire rig...

new mobo, proc, ram and Vid.card.
