The 3770K is slightly newer and uses a 22nm process vs a 32nm but does not have quad channel memory like the 3820. I haven't used the 3770K for gaming so i don't know how the two compare to one another. I have a 3820 and I never ran into any problems running games. I hope this helps.

I dont know if I want to go that high with my ocverclock. I plan to do a medium type overclock. Would the 3770k be the better option?

Also not sure if I should post here but what is the best thermal paste?

3770K is a little bit better than the 3570K, but value wise, the 3570K is much better unless you're video editing. Both will overclock equally as well.

My best suggestion is to wait. Haswell is right around the corner, and once Haswell's released, Socket 1155 Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge is phased out, so any motherboard you buy now won't be able to upgrade to Socket 1150 Haswell.

For thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 is a highly recommended one.

If this is your concern, I would go 3820 now, but only with the 100% intention of upgrading to a 6/8 core IB-E later. The Hyperthreading on either chip will almost never provide more gaming performance. But, the next generation consoles will have 8 cores, and I would not be surprised if one or two years down the road we start to see a lot more games optimized for more than 4 cores.

If you have no interest in the IB-E, then get yourself a 3570K, and use the saved $$ on GPU's, SSD's and such. thumb.gif

The 3770k and the 3820 are going to be indistinguishable at 1920x1080. Your limiting factor will be the graphics card between the two of them. I would get a 3820 and X79 board because the 3770k is the fastest CPU that will ever be released for the 1155 platform. By buying it, you kill your future upgrade potential. Also, the 3820 will handle multiple GPU's (three GPUs or more) better due to the fact that it has more PCIe lanes than the 3770k.

X79 boards are indeed a bit pricier, but you're not going to put a $250 3770k on a $70 motherboard anyway I hope.

The 3820 makes sense any way you look at it.
