I want to upgrade but I could use some help

Currently I have a MSI 460. Recently the fans have been making weird noises also I'm not hitting the same kind of frame rates I was hitting before. Thus I'm thinking its time to make a replacement. I'm willing to spend a max of $300ish maybe more. However I'm kind of hesitant as I know the new Maxwell architecture is going to be coming out. Now I keep wondering if it would be worth it to spend a bunch on a new card when I'm probably just going to need to replace it next year. So this is where I'm stuck.

So to sum up I'm looking for some input should I just stick with a cheaper card and wait it out or just spend a bunch and get something nice.

I do have the wattage to run anything so power is no problem.

I'm not set on nvidia I can go either way.

Currently Based on what I've read I've been looking at the 7950 the 660ti and the 660.

Finally looking in the $200-$300ish range

If you'd really like to upgrade now, I'd say the 7950 is the way to go, but if you'd like to wait and see what comes next, you could always opt for a 7850/70 or similar. As far as I know, it should blow the 460 out of the water.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202004 should hold you off imo.

maxwell architecture is atleast a year away. it would be used in the GTX 800 series. Kepler architecture will be used in the upcoming GTX 700 series. But it would take atleast 3 -4 months for mid range Kepler GTX 700 parts. the high end Geforce Titan is releasing in late Feb at a price of USD 900.

you best option at USD 300 is the HD 7950 boost. matches GTX 670 at stock. easily overclocks to 1100 - 1150 mhz and matches HD 7970 Ghz performance.

also it would help if you update your sig rig.

what cpu do you have ? you need a phenom ii x4 at 4 ghz or core i5 at 3 ghz to avoid any CPU bottlenecks.

I have an I7 950 I've never actually run into any bottlenecks with it.

7950 boost really that much better then the similar priced options? I keep seeing it suggested but I'm also really worried about using a amd I used to have a ton of trouble with an old one when I was trying to run open GL applications.

Emulation gaming mostly. PS2, wii and ps1. Many of the plugins are open GL for the best looking stuff.
