p4

Thread Starter
so i just swapped my celeron out for a p4

i'm curious why the cpu monitor in the task manager is now displaying two cpus, when it was only showing one cpu with the celeron and none of the settings have changed.

its a socket 478 3.0Ghz p4, so its not a dual core.

does anyone know what this means?

its becase of hyperthreading, it "pretends" to be dual core or dual cpu. but it really isnt.

well, it certainly runs a lot more smoothly than my celeron did. its not much faster, but it multitasks signifigantly better

so how exactly is the p4 w HT behaving different than the celeron?

first of all the chip is much better than a celeron, second the ht helps multitasking in the fact that it makes the software "think" as if there are 2 processors it helps divide the work load.

Think of it like this LOL, imagine if you had 4 arms rather than 2. you could do alot more work, however even though you now have 4 arms, it still doesnt mean there are 2 of you.

also the p4 should have more cache so will also be better performer because of this.

I hate having 256Kb cache
