What to do, opinions appreciated!

Hey there guys,

Im looking into adding a second card to my system, I'm currently using an EVGA GTX590 on water with an i7-3770k, 16GB DDR3, and SSD's. Im currently playing games like BF3, Skyrim, WOW Mists of Pandaria, Borderlands 2, and I have more that I would love to install. I'm currently playing these on an Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 on ultra with all settings maxed out.

In some games, and in some situations I find the card starts to chug, most prominent in Skyrim in open world scenarios and in 64 Player BF3. I'm debating about adding an additional GTX 590 to my system now that everyone is upgrading to newer cards. I like the idea of Dual GPU cards, as I've moved from a GTX 295 to my GTX 590, and it will always be on water.

A few questions,

1. Will my current Corsair AX850 be powerful enough to support my system and an additional GTX 590 on water.

2. Will I see a substantial enough increase in performance with another GTX 590? Or would it be better to sell my current card and move up, AMD cards ARE NOT an option and I will NOT move to one (hence posting in the NVIDIA section).

2.5 A GTX 690, or 680 would be preferred, or should I just wait for the 700 series?

3. Would I see a substantial difference by adding another card, non GTX 590 and set it to be a Physx card, offloading some of the work from the GTX 590.

I've been looking all over for some of these reviews and benchmarks comparing a single GTX 590 to Quad SLI, and/or a Physx card, its not that i'm overly disappointed with my current set up, I would just rather it be even smoother.

Things to consider, whatever card/cards I will get will ALWAYS be on water, price IS a factor, I don't have a specific budget in mind but I would rather not blow the bank.

Thanks for your help guys, I would love to hear what you all have to say!

1. Nope, you will need a beefier PSU, probably a 1000Watt
2./2.5 You will see a big difference by getting another 590, but I say that you should just wait for the 700 series to come out. Then you can decide if you want the newer 790 or the 690(which will probably be cheaper by that time).
Also most games will have a hard time using all 4 GPU you so your FPS will not be as good as running one card.
3. Not really, maybe a ~10Fps boost, but better to just upgrade your main card.

Sell the 590 and get a 680 for £420 (maybe 2), you 590 will sell for a bit and might come close to shaving half the price off. If you wait for 7xx series your card will just depreciate even more.

The 590 is still a beast of a card and I imagine the VRAM is the reason it chugs in some games (not 100% on that though). I game at 5760*1080 and get close to the 2GB limits of my 680's.

I would hang out for some hard news on the Titan card, as this is supposed to be 85% the power of a 690. If these rumours are close to the truth, this could be a gem of a card but at a high price.

Either way, we wont have long to wait, as the release will be very soon.

Hmm I figured I would need to upgrade my PSU, thats unfortunate. I've heard of issues with Quad GPU Scaling.. I guess I should just wait for the 700 series, I cant quite remember how long it is before the top end cards get released after initial release..

Wow decisions decisions decisions...

My take is wait for the 700 series, but if you can, sell your card now to get what you can back and save for the 700 series. It would seem to possibly be more robust and energy efficient, and you won't have to purchase a new PSU. Overclockability should be greater as well, if that's something you consider doing. I still can't help but feel this price gouge for a very little performance increase though.

If it comes out as a Limited edition card I will be a bit upset, however, I don't have a HUGE problem spending a pretty penny on a card that will last me a while, this 590 I have has lasted me 2 years so far, and I imagine I could get a lot more out of it, this is just me being picky...

Thanks!
