7850 crossfire problems in BF3

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
I just grabbed myself a pair of Sapphire's hd 7850 1gb edition, to replace my dieing gtx480.
I'm running the newest catalyst drivers, 1.13, and im having problems in BF3;
As soon as i put the MSAA on, the game drops down to about 30 fps and starts suttering.
Even in msi kombustor, as soon as i turn AA on, even if fps is well above 60 i can still see micro suttering.
Both cards are oc'd to 1100mhz on core, and score 11.2k on 3dmark 11.
Any ideas what might cause this? could this be because both pci slots are running 8x?

dont get upset BUT that was a BAD choice man.. you could get the 2gb version by a little more and not having those problems (currently and in the future)

yes theese issues happen on stock aswell, and i had a great deal on them, got them for 1800 NIS where here in israel it's the price of a gtx 660ti...
if i switch out one card for a 2gb would that fix my problems?
edit: just realised that CF duplicates the VRAM on both cards instead of sharing... *** lol

How did you end up with the 1GB cards? I thought they only had 2GB models.

1GB models are the cheaper ones.

Getiing two 1GB HD 7850 cards was a bad choice. as you learnt CF duplicates VRAM. With MSAA 4x in BF3 you easily cross 1GB. you will have terrible stuttering as you run out of VRAM. your only option is turn off MSAA.

If there is a chance to return the cards do it. get a HD 7950 boost or GTX 660 Ti , whatever fits your budget . its a no brainer. A single GPU is always the best option. no CF / SLI scaling problems. no micro stuttering.
