Gigabyte GTX 680 5x Windforce overclocking problem? :(

Before I get destroyed for buying this card, yes I did see the thread, and I know a lot of you disagreed with the aesthetics of this card. However, for me, it worked. So I bought it. tongue.gif

Now I am a little confused as well as upset, cause the most I can squeeze out of this GPU is 1278mhz. Which I feel is a little low for a top of the line card from gigabyte.

I've increased the mhz by 10-20mhz each time, and hit the wall at 1278. The OC version of the card starts at 1202mhz (boost) so effectively, i've only gained a 76 mhz increase.

Even after hitting the 1278mhz mark, when i increase it to 1300mhz, no matter how much extra power % or voltage I give it, it will NOT run heaven 3 benchmark for more than 0.5 - 1 second.

Am I missing something? Am i doing something wrong? please let me know smile.gif I'd greatly appreciate it, as i expected to get at least high 1300's or maybe 1400 mhz out of this card, which is why I bought it, otherwise i'd have gone SLI of cheaper cards.

Motherboard - P6x58d-e
PSU - 1000w Corsair (Bronze)
CPU - i7 950 OC'd to 4.0ghz
Ram - 6gb triple channel hyperx 2000mhz
Nvidia driver - 310.90

Some chips just don't go super far past stock especially being that high already. I have a MSI lightning and it is also a flagship, but I can't get past 1280 safely.

Deffo chip lottery and as good as your clocks are (I have seen some cards not get to 1200Mhz), it still feels like a let down.

If voltage increases don't help, you are pretty much at your limit sorry bud frown.gif

Ah man, that's really disappointing frown.gif their little claim on the GPU cherry picking made me believe i'd be able to get a bit more juice out of it lol... Oh well =/

at least it gets 1278mhz at stock voltage i guess.

And thanks for the fast replies guys! smile.gif

Get some gaming done and you wont worry about the extras. 680's are great cards and handle everything thrown at them (big clocks or not).

Enjoy Warrior smile.gif

also, i have a windforce 670, i cant even get a stable 1202mhz overclock, so i have to settle with 1189mhz. But I'm still a happy mf'er =)

Hahaha, thanks guys tongue.gif Appreciate the reassurance that I shouldn't be upset about it.

I'll stop being a little ***** ^_~ It's still running damn cool at 1278 so i'll be happy smile.gif

I forgot to add one small thing... Evga Kboost.. This boosts the voltage up to 1.212v constantly..

My knowledge with voltage isn't that great..

Is it simply about keeping it cool, and the life of the video card will be shortened, but it will be okay?

or is it you boost the voltage, you are actually going to KILL your card quickly.

cheers! smile.gif

k-boost is perfectly safe. it just sets your voltage at a fixed (set) number at all times. with k-boost disabled, your graphics card power saving feature will be enabled, which lowers the voltage and clock speeds during low stress.

keep in mind that with k-boost enabled, your clock speed will always be at max (except for kepler boost), even when in windows and application menus. there is a possibility to create a .bat file to set to either max voltage or idle voltage though, with the help of nvidiaInspector. let me know if you want the guide linked =)
