Part of the issue for me is also that everything in the case is either black or copper - so there's a lot of light absorption everywhere. You have more reflected light of the top of the CPU block (mines the black alu XSPC block) and there's actually quite a bit reflected from the HD face, light colored slots, top of the IO connectors, chipset heatsink, etc..

It's funny about the AP15's (well in my case AP13's) that I'm usually very sensitive to electronic motor whine, PSU whines, some caps, etc... I can't tell you how happy I am to live in a tubeless TV world... it used to drive me nuts back in the 80s and 90s because I could hear the tube more than the TV unless it was turned up pretty loud.

But the GTs are really quite pleasant - I don't notice them any more than I do my MCP35X (which is to say not at all unless I'm under my desk with my head next to my rig. biggrin.gif

Same here, I could hear the TV tube from outside the room.
I have the same pump, and even though it's mounted solid on the bay res (which in turn is mounted solid in the case) it's only audible somewhere above 40%.
And it amost never gets there in my relatively low-powered rig.

Yep, mine's a clear window and indeed the CPU-370 block acts like a mirror.
And to think I still have 6 green 30cm CCFLs waiting rolleyes.gif
Might put 2 under the top cover, and I'll probably give the others a try on the PSU side.

eek.gif With 6 CFL's added to the mix you'll be able to light up the whole room with that rig! Although that could definitely make for some pretty incredible shots - I'm assuming you'll have them on one or more switches to turn them off when it gets irritating. Even under a desk I think that would start to wear after a few months.

Can't wait to see it though! thumb.gif

A little overkill never hurt anyone biggrin.gif
It's actually a 2 lamp set and a different 4 lamp set. Both were listed as Revoltec kits, but turns out the 4 lamp kit is actually Sharkoon. The Revoltec kit comes with a switch on a PCI backplate, but it looks really out of place as it's finished in shiny metal. The Sharkoon kit comes with 2 black switches I can mount anywhere, or at least where I'd want to drill a couple of holes.
There is some difference in quality of finish between the kits, I'll post some pics later. And the wiring is predictably ugly and unsleeved, so I'll have to take care of that as well.

Here are some pics of a Revoltec CCFL next to the a Sharkoon:

The top one is the Revoltec (with inverter and PCI backplate with switch), the bottom one is the Sharkoon (with inverter and toggle switch).
The Sharkoon feels a slightly higher quality overall, but where the round tube meets the square end, the finish isn't nearly there:

The Revoltec is finished way better at the ends:

As you can see in the first pic, I'll try to cover up the ends of the Sharkoon. First try was with some black electrical tape, and if I spend a little more time cutting it to size properly I think I can get a decent result.

I think I'd just scuff it with a little sandpaper and paint just the ends with a modeling brush (or other very fine tip brush).

I read the title as Soylent Green first and wondered how you'd pull a theme like that lol

Regardless still a great build!thumb.gif

Now you're giving me ideas thumb.gif I could use the same spraypaint can I used for the fans. Hmmm...
Talking about spraypaint, I'll post the results of a little experiment of mine tonight wink.gif

So your age probably starts with at least a "3" tongue.gif (as does mine). I've noticed when I mention Soylent Green to anyone younger, the reaction is mostly "What now green?" smile.gif

What do you do when your intake fans are mostly hidden behind a filter, but you would really like to see some more green on that side?
A little experiment with spray paint and some filters of course!

That came out pretty well smile.gif

There are a few small smudges on some of the filters where paint got under the masking tape, so I still have to clean that up.
I got a little too close to one of the filters with the paint can, painting shut a few dozen of the tiny holes. If I can't get that sorted I'll paint a few more filters and use the ones that came out best.

One more pic just for fun:
