Yes, that was the biggest feature of the SR-2, because the BClock can be increased therefore you could overclock on SR-2.

On SR-X unfortunately the CPU's are locked, as is the BClock (Like +5-7MHz at max.)

With that being said the SR-X is still an awesome system for multithreaded performance, but for gaming you are better off with an overclocked X79 or Z77 platform. SR-2 is still quite nice today also if you can find one and OC it.

In your case the SR-X may be a good choice if they are able to use all the CPU threads.

EVGA needs to get bigger so they can order a few hundred trays of Xeons and request Intel to unlock them....

You can find Sr2 on newegg all day ... no knews of a sr3 that i have heard of coming out anytime soon in the next 2 years....I would think if they do make a sr3 it will be atleast 2+years from now...

I would like an sr2 build but its way overkill for anything i need, would like one just to have the ultimate rigg someday maybe...more realilstically i would be looking at the rampage 4 extreme ..

Your sr2 build will probably cost half as much as srx build, put the extra money towards watercooling..

ok, just looking around, all i see for some reason on the 6 cores are by hp? i hate going with those sockets that i dont know a ton about, how fast could you make a couple of these?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117242

and using these you could use your usual ddr3 1600 + ram and of course 4 way sli, and basicly everything up to date?

To have more than one Intel CPU in a motherboard, the CPU must have multiple QPI links. Only Xeons have multiple QPI links and no Xeon has an unlocked multiplier.

Older Xeons were still overclockable since you could adjust the motherboard's Base Clock (Bclk). However, with Sandy Bridge onward.... that Bclk is tied into other components that cannot overclock. This was done to save money since motherboards/CPUs require less clocks now.

You can only run one of those processors. They aren't compatible with a 2P configuration. You'll want something like a couple E56**s or X56**s. Yes DDR3 1600 will work fine a SR-2.
