fans on rads?

Can anyone tell me it is necessary to have fans on the rad? trying to cut down on noise. Also I'm thinking of a dual rad loop if that makes any difference.

yes you need fans on rad to help cool it. Just get low speed fans. i got ap15 an modded thm to run on 5 volts. smile.gif now watch movie in silence.

had some noctua fan QUITE http://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-F12-PWM-Cooling-Fan/dp/B00632FL8A/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359185733&sr=1-6

Of course you want fans. Air is a terrible conductor of heat so unless you're drawing fresh cool air through those fins, the radiator won't do anything.
APU what?

Thanks for the info, I only ask because back when i had my fire-bird i swore that it didn't have any fans, i guess they were just super quiet.

FireBird as in Pontiac? As long as a car is moving, it doesn't need fans. Something tells me your computer isn't moving 50mph around your living room.

whare are alot of low speed fans, but dont get a good overclock. also if you got a Hard drive (7200rpm) thats makes alot more noise then the fans would (depends on fans)

well it depends... if your case has enough airflow by itself or if the rad is big enough you can easily get away without having fans on the rad itself.

i speak first hand, i have NO fans (0, zip, nadda, zero) on my 360 rad, but it is however mounted in my case infront of my intake fans (which are set to low speed most the time, and high speed makes minimal difference)

my cpu is OCed to 4ghz, 1.45v and i never exceed 55C at load.

i plan to put 6 fans in push pull, i just forgot to get screws when i bought all my stuff rolleyes.gif

Safe to say he was talking about the HP Firebird. Interestingly, it was watercooled and yes it had fans under the rad.
