[solved] Why is my PC Still Slow? - Page 2

I read somewhere on the forums here that 1866 RAM tends to have an issue with AMD Platforms. That the optimal is 1600 or 2133. Perhaps that is the issue? I wish I could remember where I read that and link you to it. Buts its 640am and I have yet to go to bed.

Agreed, those who are just saying "get an SSD" are completely missing the point of this thread. There is something wrong if it takes that long to boot up. I have a normal HDD and it is perfectly fine and boots up quick. I would run tests on all your components one by one and find out which one is causing the problems...

Guys did all your PC's take so long to load and then hang and crash before you all bought SSD's? Of course not!

Head over to the events manager and take a look at the windows system events, that should give you a strong clue as to the problem. No idea where that is on 8 though, sorry.

Best Regards,
Stu.

1) You should get an SSD

2) Having a hard time seeing $2500 there....

Not really. Pick an HDD, any HDD, and I can load in enough startup items to push it past a 3 minuite boot up time. Sure, there could be something wrong, but really, some people just like to/need to run some really heavy programs. I know I do. I have:

http servers
antivirus
FTP
SSH
VNC
remote desktop
torrent
audio programs
audio servers
background audio services
network monitoring software
temp and voltage monitoring software
vmware
password manager
ssd software
keyboard and mouse software
application switching software
skype, msn, etc etc
midi software
wifi router software
blutooth router software
video drivers
adobe, java, etc updaters
itunes processes
webcam software
and more

ALL on my main machine at startup.

"It's not the greatest build in the world (especially considering the money that's into it),"

$2,500! blinksmiley.gif

"but it's more or less a Frankenstein of parts that have evolved over the course of 18 months. It's got parts from Newegg, Best Buy, even Walmart (just the mouse), and some that have been salvaged from older OEM PCs, such as the DVD writer, all-in-one card reader, and one of the hard drives, all of which have been passed down from build to build since my Acer Athlon 64 PC I purchased in 2006"

I don't suppose your OS drive is the one from '06? thinking.gif

SSD! You're using an old hard drive which is slowing your system down massively.

Check and see your HDD isn't throwing any errors at you. Download HD Tune pro, click on the health tab and upload a screenshot here. Try de-fragmenting your drive.
