i'd be checking start-ups, processes, defrag, programs. Then the room on my hard drive(s), Temps when running apps, defaults anti-virse running background
for the money you should have a good system ..Memory check? see maybe you have slow ram or "cooked"

Kindly read the whole thread before replying.

Anyways, even with the HDD being the primary drive, it should not be that slow. It's obviously slower than an SSD build, but it shouldn't be unusable. Error checking, benchmarking the drive, defragging, checking startup programs, checking the amount of running processes, etc, are what I'd do before swapping the drive out.

As people have stated the SSD is the most important part of the boot-speed really.

Did you reformat everything properly? Does the sabertooth board have access to speed-boot mode that doesnt check RAM at startup? Some boards also wait for BIOS-input before loading into windows. Do you have multi-OS boot?

Sounds to me like BIOS settings may need tweaked, Also have you got the latest BIOS update, clear the cmos and reconfigure the BIOS. also if you can borrow a SATA HDD even a 40 gig from an old PC or a friend and load 7 or 8 see what happens, that way you don't have to back up all your stuff and reformat for no reason if it loads and works you'll know it's in the existing drive or (software on the existing drive) you should be able to boot in 30 to 60 seconds with your setup also check your start up programs see if you have a rouge prog snafuing you (malware / virus etc.) Run scan disk or download HDD regenarator check your drive, All these guys saying SSD SSD haven't got a clue about diagnosing problems, find the problem then upgrade to a SSD for your OS , I,m running a 4 year old SATA HDD and I boot in about 30 seconds, Good Luck.

I'd bet its this. Sounds like there's some EPIC bloatware on it, or a startup list of 2,000+ things.

Clear out your boot list (use CCleaner - yes, it can do that), and get it down to AT MOST 10 things (and even that's bad). Check your running processes (ctrl+shift+esc to open task manager), ideally that should be under 60. Then make sure your temps are good. Defrag (Defraggler is great).

It is most definitely the harddrive at fault this time. The slow boot speed, program crashes and lock ups and other stuff clearly indicate it. I personally would get a new 1TB drive, clone it over and then you should be good to go. However, it is your computer so good luck.thumb.gif

Have you tried a clean install of Windows...

If you do decide to get a SSD... install windows on it... and store your large stuff on the HDD's.. anything you want to load quicker just throw it onto the SSD.. (this way you dont lose anything and can slowly move stuff around..)

Good luck..

Use your HDD for storage and your SDD for programs. For example Bootup software, Programs you use a lot, and even some games you like. Put music on your HDD. Just my 2cents.(:
