New to overclocking, some concerns in mind

Thread Starter
Greetings,

So I've started to learn about overclocking and so far I've set my i5 3570k's multiplier as 42, running Prime95 as of now.
Temperatures are around 65 degrees.
I do have some questions about the Vcore and the offset mode:

1. When I first set multiplier to 42 and left Vcore on Auto, CPU-Z reads 1.12-1.14v Vcore while running Prime95.
2. Now I've set the Vcore to offset mode with +0.005, and now it is sitting at 1.104v while running Prime95.

My LLC is set to LLC 5 on the motherboard if it makes any difference.

Now I've seen people online with pictures, as well as on youtube with the same CPU and Motherboard, and settings in BIOS, that they selected offsets that are negative(e.g. -0.065), and yielded them Vcore of somewhere between 1.12-1.14v, yet mine is set as a positive value and it is still under what I've observed from the others.

Why is there such a big difference between my machine and theirs?

Again it is my first time learning how to overclock so any clarification is appreciated.

i5 3570k
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4

EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention that the readings are from CPU-Z

In offset mode, your mobo sets the voltage relative to the multipler,

Higher multi = higer vcore.

The + or - offset allows you to fine tune it for various reasons.

Also, LLC effects vdroop I beleive.

When the processor goes under load, I gues the mobo has trouble keeping the voltage up - so LLC compensates by adding more voltage. Think of LLC as another form of offset.

So, yeah, there are a few things that can give you different voltages.

My concern is that since the voltage readings are so low, compared to the others I've seen, will it still be stable? So far an hour into Prime95, still nothing yet.

You should let it run for at least 8 hours to consider yourself stable (blend mode).
And this link will help you.
http://www.overclock.net/t/838244/prime95-a-quick-dirty-guide-to-the-custom-settings
Read it thoroughly.
And as for the low voltage, I think that it's ok. Besides, your mobo can take alot of punishment. Cheers.

This is the result of running Prime95 after 8 hours, still gonna leave it on, probably until 24 hours.

Are these results good? (Temperature seems good but it's freezing in Ontario Canada so..)

4.2 is just barely above stock, so you would expect to see pretty low voltages there. Kick it up to 44 or 45 and see how it fares - looks like you've got some headroom.

Pretty damn good!!! You can squeeze moar!!! I would go for 4.5Ghz first, and then more. Cheers.
