Lower fan RPMs = lower temps? - Page 2

With higher rpm, most fans will disperse air outwards in a cone shape even more chaotically than on a lower temperature, not delivering crucial cool air to the component it needs.

Just my assumption, of course.

Well, for whatever the reason is, I'll take it as I have now a superquiet PC and good cooling smile.gif I would suggest others to try to lower their RPM and see if there's any difference as well. High RPMs don't necessary mean cooler temps as demonstrated in my case.

My ambient temperatures are typically the same with little varience. Idle and load temperatures remain lower.1

Well if you got better temps from 1400 down to 600 rpm the only explanation i found for this is that your ambient temps dropped.
Try to make the same test again load prime95 with the fans at 1400rpm then drop them to 600 while running prime and post results after that thumb.gif

My hard disk Seagate 7200 rpm usually goes 29C - 31C with a 120mm front fan spinng at 1200 rpm.

I'm quite sure that the average temp goes 1C - 3C higher with the front fan spinning at min 600 rpm, specially in hotter days.

With the fan at 600 rpm it's common to me to see temps about 32C-33C.

I think it depends on fan format(^^^ see my above posts) could someone who has aerodynamic knowledge maybe tell me if im correct?

The blade format sure matters but we are talking about the same fan with lower rpm so it simply is not possible, software miss read lower ambient temps some other explanation will do but the same fan with lower RPM does not give lower temps.

only thing I can see making any sense here is whatever the fan is pushing against has a high airflow resistance and lowering the fan's rpm just hit the sweet spot.

If the fans are less efficient at higher RPM, they'd have to have a pretty whack design if the extra speed doesn't compensate and keeps temps the same (at worst). I'm betting on different ambient temperature.
How exactly did you test this any way?

The test enviroment is done when I know that the ambient temperature is the same. On both of the fans in question is a rhetostat, which I can adjust the fans RPM. I turned it completely low, which is rated at 600RPM, and do a Prime95 test and use RealTemp 3.7 to monitor. Likewise, I'd turn up the RPM by cranking the knob to the right and maxing it out at the rated 1400RPM, and run the same test with the same parameters again.

I will conduct some more trials and verify.
