Thread Starter
I'm trying to help my buddy build a desktop computer and it just isnt working... We first got the thing to power up for a few seconds and then it went down. so we thought maybe it could be the MOBO and went out and got another one... now that wont turn on at all... Can someone please help us?!?! its a z77pro 4 mobo asrock, 2600k processor, 16gb ram cooler master tower, nvidia gtx580!

First things first. Have you ensured that all cables are connected as they should be and that nothing could be causing a short anywhere?

CPU 8 pin properly installed? 24-pin?

Unplug everything from the PSU, then jump the GREEN wire on the 24-pin to pretty much any Black wire on the 24-pin to see if your PSU powers on. You can use a fan on a Molex connector or something to see if it has any output. If you have a multimeter, check voltages and such.

Also, make sure your power switch is on the header properly, and that the PSU switch is in the "l" position and not the "O." tongue.gif

We did that, we originally thought the PSU was bad but we tested it and it worked fine. We then thought perhaps there is a short in the case. Kind of an out there thought but hey it could happen. We just picked up the new MOBO, the asrock and are about to test it again...

Have you tested all the components individually? Can you confirm that the GPU, memory, CPU work?
