Complex Searches in Windows 7

I have a lot of written work saved on my computer and I'd like to figure out how to use the search engine better. I noticed that I can search for file names, but not the text within it, unless it's a saved webpage. I don't use Microsoft Word, to clarify, I use Open Office.

Here's an example. I remember saving an article or writing something that references "Monoatomic Hydrogen". I know it's in a given folder, but I don't remember which exact file it is out of the hundreds of files I have in there. If I type "Monoatomic Hydrogen" in the window's search bar, it will only show me the Open Office Text documents that have those words in the title, not which ones have those words within the actual document. If it's a saved web-article though... he does show it to me, even if the words are not in the title and only within the saved webpage itself. This is nice and all, but it doesn't show me exactly "Monoatomic Hydrogen", not the two together. It will show me any page that has those two words, regardless of whether they are together or completely separate.

It's a bit like if you were stuck using the "all these words:" function in advanced Google Search. I want to use "this exact word or phrase:" Also I would like to be able to use the same kind of precision searching in my Open Office text files, not just my saved webpages. I remember I may have messed with something in the Control Panel... page files maybe, something that was supposed to make the computer faster or use less space on my SSD, while sacrificing Window's inherent search capabilities. At the time I didn't think much of it, but now I realize I would really like to be able to search for stuff on my computer.

Also, I wouldn't mind using a third-party add-on that can search my Windows folders and the files therein. If such an add-on exists.

TL;DR
Is there a way to initiate complex searches on my Windows 7 folders, kind of like you are able to do in Google Advanced search.

You could try everything

http://www.voidtools.com/

I´m not sure if this will do what you want but for me it´s a better alternative than the Win default

lol, I thought you were suggesting I literally try everything I can find out there.

I remember hearing that in order for those third-party search engines to work properly, I should disable the default Win 7 search. In... "Task Bar and Start Menu Properties", "Start Menu" tab, "Customize", and under "Search other files and libraries" select "Don't search". From what I gather... this disables all of the default search boxes in all windows and the Start Menu. Is it wise to do this, or is it un-necessary?

You shouldn´t have to disable anything, I´m pretty sure I didn´t , it´s been a while since I installed.

If you still need the fix for W7 searches and how to make full indexing work I found the solution that works. PDF files wont index until you do this with W7 64b.

Depending if you have 64 bit or 32 there are some differences. If you have 64 bit you must do this. Go to indexing options, advance, file types, scroll until you see this, if the ifilter is not found we have to install the fix (it wont be found). Make sure to select index properties and file contents! My screen shot is before I fixed it.

Adobe fix http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5542

Then re-check, should be installed where screen shot shows. I have done this to a lot of company computers. If this is a company computer with file encryption there is an area to index encrypted files, I have to select that also. On the main indexing options screen make sure "users" within the c drive is selected, if not modify. Most importantly make sure the area your files are in get indexed. By default W7 did not index my c drive/ users which is where my library (my docs are saved). You might want to index the "windows" area under c drive also, it has downloads.

Once done you can search by any random word, or string of words, in any type of file. W7 32bit should already work if settings are right, if not is the filter found? Download Adobe reader x W 32B. Make sure
