1156 is the old chipset (no longer in production), 1155 is the existing chipset, 1150 is the future chipset.....

Companies don't make as much money when you can continually swap out your old CPU for a new CPU. The best way to make money is to make things obsolete - like your old 1156 pin socket motherboard - so you're forced to upgrade that as well. It's a term called "planned obsolescence" and it's been in use for a very long time.

Except AMD doesn't do that applaud.gif and most of their latest FX CPUs (if not all) work on boards that are older than most pets...

AMD's earning reports indicate the result of their "generosity"... when their customer base goes flying out from under them because they aren't keeping up in performance, or form factor I'm sure they'll rethink these decisions.

Not sure what you mean by that.....

Unfortunately for them, they've always had bad earnings report (except when settling with Intel for +1 billion US$) even when they were better than Intel in the 'Athlon vs P4' days....

But my point was, as a consumer, I would love it if Intel could stick to a chipset for more than a generation (which they started doing with the SB & SB-E) and give their boards a longer life span like AMD....
