970A-G46 Question

Thread Starter
I was thinking of getting a V6 GT, and was wondering if it would fit my motherboard and case. Here are links to what I have and the cooler.

I dont recommend to overclock on that board, not even minimal. MSI has packed that board with low quality VRMs which will blow/burn if put under stress. Could you stretch to a Asrock 970 Pro4, this is a very good overclocker and will yield better results than that one for sure wink.gif

Not really a related post, I just saw this thread and i would have used pretty much the same title.

I bought this mobo yesterday and built it up. On first start with mobo, processor, GPU and one stick of ram, it booted perfectly. So I built it into my case, sorted everything out and put another stick of ram in. It didn't post. I have tried so many things but it just wont postwith two sticks. In the manual it suggests putting the sticks in DIMM slot 2 and 4 to ensure successful boot. Those two are the blue slots.
  • Tried both sticks in blue
  • Tried both sticks in black
  • Took the ram from my HTPC and it doesn't work in blue or black
  • One stick of ram in DIMM slot 2 (the first blue) and it worked, with all four stick on all four attempts
  • One of the four sticks in any other DIMM slot besides 2 (the first blue) and no post.

Currently using only one stick of 2GB and its works, but its struggling to say the least. I did get it to post and boot with 2 sticks of the TEAM ram at one point (both in blue) but windows only showed 2GB usable and upon reboot, well, it didn't boot, or post. I have seen lots of people recommend manually setting the timings and voltages of the ram when it comes to 1600 on AMD, and I would if only the thing would post. All four sticks of ram work individually, and together in dual channel in my HTPC. In cpuz on the SPD tab, everything is grayed out for all four slots when I boot with one stick. Memory tab shows one stick of 2GB in single channel. Something tells me thats its a fault on the mobo and that I have to rma, if i do it will be at least a month before I have a PC again. Really not keen for that.

Can someone please give me a magical fix, I will be eternally grateful and buy you a pony farm or something in my next life.

1st set of ram (gaming PC ram) - Team Xtreem LV 1600 2x2GB
2nd set (from HTPC) - Corsair CMX2GX3M1A1333C9
AMD Phenom x4 945
Corsair HX 650 PSU
Sapphire 7770 Vapor-X

Thanks
