Why so hot?

Thread Starter
Using my dads pentium d 805 occasionally nd have noticed the temps are relly high, its on stock frequency, infact loer than stock by 200mhz now to try to cool. The problem is its averaging 46-56C temperatures at only 10-25% load. Thats hotter than my oc at 3.33Ghz at those usages

Are all of the fans working? Are they pointing the correct direction? When was the last time the HS fins/pipes were blown out with compressed air? Is there adequate surrounding space in the rig`s locale? Is the room ambient high? If you can say "yes" to the above, try cleaning, lapping and putting a spot of AS 5 back on the CPU chip.

there are many things that can cause this

is the heatsink seated properly? may not hurt to get some AS5 (artic silver 5) and reseat it.
do you have a proper cooling system?
is your system congested and potentially blocking airflow?
is it a brand comp? the reason i ask this is because i have one and it works fine (compaq 1230NX) but the CPU temp stays about 60 IDLE at all times. but you know about them brand name computers. most only have 1 case fan and a lousy heatsink .

good luck

Get an intake fan and mount it in or near the front of your rig, or at the side.
