Low Voltage Ram helpes with 3770K overclock

Thread Starter
Just want to do a quick sharing of my finding.

I overclocked my 3770K to 4.7Ghz with 1.32v vcore originally with 2 sticks of 1.5v Patriot G2 1600 9-9-9-24 ram.

With these rams, the IBT will not pass at 1.5v, once I dial them up to 1.65v, IBT passes but Prime 95 large fft will always have rounding error within the first 30~ 45 mins. Even I pump the vCore to 1.35v, there are still rounding error.

I gave up these ram (actually RMA 4 sticks of these because strangely even the sticks/package and website says they are 1.5v ram, the XMP says otherwise stating 1.65v) and picked up 2 sticks G.Skill Sniper DDR3-1600 1.25v ram.

Guess what, running Prime 95 Large FFT for 3 hours, and no error so far with 1.32v vCore only, i pumped the ram to 1.3v just to be safe. I always have great experience with G.Skill and they deliver yet again. Patriot on the other hand, not so much and they even have this misleading voltage in my case.

So if others maybe seeing similar instability, some low voltage ram might help.

Interesting. I remember having weird ram issues with prime (128/128) and my 3570K, but never tried low voltage sticks or just lowering ram voltage. I'll have to test this and see if I have similar results.

do you have the GSkill 8GB Kit? 2x4G ? i have the same and in BIOS it says stock voltage is 1.5v how did u manage to get 1.25?

Yes I have the 2x4gb 1.25v sniper kit.
In bios you can simply turn the XMP profile on and the board will recognize the 1.25v ram.
I then override the voltage to 1.3v
