Bad overclocking FX-6300 with Biostar TA990FXE - Page 4

The 6300 is a very good overclocker, it will hit 4.8GHz with just a 212Evo. What mother5board do you have since this will affect the amount of vDroop you get. The Volts look OK but that much vDroop is unacceptable. Tell us the PSU, Motherboard and any other things you have

The OP's power supply is a no name power supply AcBel 470W pure 430W...

FYI his board is fine. Biostar is known to use QUALITY components in their 4 phases.
Quote:
However, the Biostar TA890FXE, which comes with a similar-sized 4+2 power phase, was not failure-prone. It featured high amperage rating per transistor; completely rock-solid.

Believe the 990fxe would have quality components too.

How much would a poor power supply delivering noise and ripple on the line affect a CPU's VCore when you have a solid VRM setup? Increased stress? Higher voltages required?
Usually I know what to expect when its a good power supply, but a poor VRM setup. Not the other way around.

You don't want to put LLC on extreme if I'm correctly. Sin0822 recommends that for LN2 benching on Ivy.
His Bulldozer guide people linked me to was very good when I asked about overclocking my friend's 8320 vishera setup http://www.overclock.net/t/1140459/bulldozer-overclocking-guide-performance-scaling-charts-max-ocs-ln2-results-coming/0_100

PSU; Corsair 850 HX
MOBO; CHV (latest bios 1703)
DIMM; Corsair Vengeance LP 1866mhzCL9
CPU COOLER; Noctua NH-D14
GPU;*2 GTX 670

If I try to push it past 4.6 the PC locks up and I have to do a manual boot, to be honest it isn't even really (at least prime95) stable @ 1.51250 and the vDroop has got even worse it stays at 1.48400 and pretty much crashes immediately when starting prime95.
@1.55 It gets a little hot, hitting 65C max and it crashes in prime95 after an hour and a half(I honestly don't even want to be running that high of a voltage 24/7 anyway)

1.I have tried clearing CMOS (removing battery)
2.Turning down CPU/NB frequency and HTlink
3. Swapping DIMM's
4. Testing powersupply

The only thing I can think of left is the MOBO and I just got it in October so I would be a little upset if that were the case

Assuming your board is the CrossHairV, it is a very good overclocker. Fx chips, even if their not vey good, still OC quite a bit. Thos volts you currently have are enough for vast majority to hit 4.9+. I think your psu isnt powerful enough. 670CFx pulls alot of power and a 6300 will pull 150@stock so I think you need a new psu

Well I sure hope not according to my calculations under max load I should only be hitting 750W so I really don't hope it is a failing PSU seeing as I bought it in December
My suspicion is pointed toward the chip or the ram
They are both brand new(about a week old) and I never had this problem before
I ran my 4170 ran @4.8Ghz @1.4v and was using 1600mhz mems @ 1720mz

Thanks for the help!
