This phone wins everything. Best specs, best build quality, best battery capacity, waterproof etc. Love Sony
Xperia Z

LOL, Nokia were doing great, in 2006. Now they're not. They almost went bankrupt and if it wasn't for MS pumping cash into them they'd be done for. The refused to pick up Android early on, unlike Sony, LG and Samsung and now they're stuck with an ailing OS not many care for.

Tizen, Firefox OS and WebOS are nice experiments, but they won't go anywhere due to their web-based nature. Javascript simply isn't fast enough to keep up with native applications.

Android is free, open source, extremely extensible and powerful, with a massive application library and userbase. The author's premise is incredibly flawed. If Apple opened up iOS for 3rd party manufacturers you think there'd be a single manufacturer that would decline for fear of competing with the iPhone?

It will be the year of the Linux desktop before someone dethrones Android.

Windows Mobile actually had a 15% market share at one point. That was pretty significant.

Its funny that you claim JS isn't fast enough, yet that's all Android is is a massive VM. Android has taken flak for performance issues before ICS and it still gets criticized for it and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon in terms of sales. Want to know what is absolute garbage? Google Chrome.

Microsoft dictates the hardware, but the hardware is cheap and plentiful. The serious players that can actually have an effect on WP's success can produce hardware in mass quantities!

In my opinion, Microsoft needs to get Samsung to extend their Galaxy S line to include Windows Phone along with Android.

And, Sony are VERY good to XDA-developers. They releases sources on alpha builds, for christ sake. They don't need to do that, but they do. They go the extra mile indeed.

"The interesting part is that Nokia says that, after initially getting more from Microsoft than it pays, Nokia’s commitment to Microsoft is now more than the remaining amount that it can expect to get from the software maker."

Java and Javascript aren't even remotely similar, and Android code is natively compiled. There's no performance loss, unlike Javascript, which is still interpreted.

And what about a year from now when that hardware is outdated? Microsoft made a good choice with the Snapdragon S4, but they made a good choice with the S2 a few years ago for WP7, which was quickly obsoleted by the A9 dual cores.

How well will it fare against the crop of low power big.LITTLE chips which much faster GPUs? And when WP9 comes out will they deny updates to all of the old devices again?

All of my documents, emails, apps, contacts, bookmarks, and even WiFi passwords are stored in Google's cloud services. You probably think Google is just a search engine, don't you?
The only "lemming'esque" thing here is how people keep thinking Android is some cheapo platform. You realize that pretty much every current Android device costs more than WP8 phones right?

Kewl... we are now playing the milti-quote game...?

Understand kid/sir, I have had the same cell number since 1990 and have owned lots & lots of phones.  Android = throw away

Coincidentally, Android is new to the mobile market...   I have owned 5 Android phones thus far, & all of them are peicemeal, throw away devices that even the carriers don't support 17 months out. It is a cheap exeperience, meant for those who have no other choice, or do not want to afford anything else, peroid!

Glad you have all your belonging tied up into Google. Too bad you didn't read your eula and what they do with all your info. I don't need Android reading my comcast mail... lol. Or monitizing who's in my Google circle's.

Plus, I don't need  a hardware device I own, constantly Marketing me.

Lastly, who said anything about cost...  I get free phones all the time, but those I pass on because I buy the ones I want. Sprint, T-Mobile & Verizon always let me know  when I can come in and get a free phone (upgrade). Never, not once have I ever done it, because the phones they are pushing, are for lemmings. To me, Nokia Windows Phones demand a premium, because it is a phone that many want.

Anyone can get a free phone... anyone!    (But then your stuck w/Android)

Then why are the most expensive phones all running Android?

Calling people kids is not the best way to convince people of something.
But you guys are completely forgetting about the low-end asian, south-american (and maybe in the future african) markets, these are the ones that take prices a lot more in consideration rather than US/EU counterparts, and believe me, there is a HUGE MASS of people especially in Brazil, India and China that cant even afford an iPhone 5 or the latest WP, but they sure can afford a cheap crappy android and thats all that matters to them.
