GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 3.0) owner here.
Yes, with either of the two bios for the Rev 3.0 you cannot edit the majority of bios features.
Seen many complaints about it. Unable to do so myself no matter what I do.
I use AMD OverDrive to overclock outside the bios, and works... decently...
I also notice that no matter what power settings I use in the bios (the editable ones), if I hit 54c my CPU will get throttled to half voltage and half core speed, and instantly drop 8-10c.

make sure all your power saving features are turned off.
set your bios to the oc you want to try with hpc mode disabled. once it passes stress test say for 1 min, go back into the bios and turn on hpc mode only reboot and stress test.

any time you change a setting in the bios turn hpc mode off. change setting and boot. then restart and turn hpc mode on. then stress test.

The UEFI BIOS values in the Num Pad + and - buttons can be changed.

I had the Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3, Socket-AM3+, combined with the FX8350 and the good old VapoChill LS from 2005, still producing 50 degrees below zero (@ max 200w), but I tried overclocking, without any results.. AND, every time I changed something in bios and clicked on save and restart, it shut down the pc. Very frustrating!
At that time I only had a geforce 210 3dcard, and a Corsair CX 600M, psu since I only use linux (Ubuntu 12.04LTS with Gnome classic) .... I read that 600w psu should be plenty.

After only one month I bought another mainboard.. the ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ and you know what.... OC wasnt really happending there either!

And then..... after a while... (using F@H and reading about Pyrit and CAL++) I bought a used XFX 7990 with some watercooler block from ebay.....and I had to upgrade my psu, at least thats what forums said.... so I bought a xfx 850w psu... this: XFX ProSeries XXX Edition 850W PSU

Feel free to browse trough some pictures from my upgrade to new psu, watercooled 3d card, etc......
http://www.tjuetre.com/pc/

(I didnt find any import picture button her.)

And finally... my whole point.. OC, either the gigabyte or the asus, really doesnt work for my part.... I mean, on the asus, I have managed to boot on 5.6Ghz, but whenever I do some stresstesting, system freezes... I tried at 5.4 and 5.2 and 5.0 at different voltages... nothing works... the vapochill went from minus 50 to 0 in less than one minute, and then shut down the pc.
AND I used maybe 3-4 hours trying to find a stable oc, but nothing. Now I am back on 4ghz without turbo mode on. Everything is on auto in bios. Now its prime95 stable and I can compress bd movies in handbrake without blackscreen and kernel panic. Some forums said I could put the cpu to 4.4 with stock voltage, but I dont care. I guess the colder the cpu is, the better it is.
And regardless the new gpu, I still cant get the folding@home to work properly. But I guess I have to find another thread about that....

Greeting Norway.

Daniel....

PS! My OC record with the Athlon XP 4800 is 3.4ghz... with this vapochill....

Ah, it reminds me about the DFI mainboards.. I miss them! I actually OC my DFI Lanparty to death, and got a new one for free! smile.gif

Not thread-jacking at all, but I have had very little luck with UD3 myself....

I haven't racked my brain over it or anything, as this is currently my work system, but the normal rules (have been overclocking for 12 years) have not applied here.
I can't get my FX6200 past 4.6GHz.... even the smallest of RAM changes, and clock increments past 4.6GHz with 1600Mhz RAM, and it forces the PC to just get stuck in a boot loop..... The dual BIOS has been of no help when this happens either. Now I know I could be hitting a CPU limitation, but going from 100% stable to NOT BOOTING with a 2-5MHz change on bus speed doesn't sound right?? And I know it's not the RAM since it's tated at 2133MHz with CL11, and I am 1600MHz with CL11 (another issue altogether, 1T works fine, 2T won't boot, but any timings lower than CL11 won't boot??)

My 890FXA-UD5 has been pretty good to me, so I'm not knocking Gigabyte, and as poster said above, he had similar results going to a nicer Asus board.... oddly, I see a ton of people getting great results with the UD3??
LMK if you find out something, cause I'd love to get some snappier performance from this system. It's my work computer, and it just doesn't do as well my 1090T.... I can "feel" it, and it's not the placebo effect either...
